so i "ran" an M3

i say "ran" because it wasnt a straight up race. he was behind me at first and i decided to play. i gunned it next to him and slowed down immediately to see if he was game.
he decided to go and i had to navigate my way around a few cars before i could get straight. by this time he is about a car and a half in front of me. im pullin up on him in third and about halfway through fourth im at his drivers door and he decides to brake.
darn.
i know i was pulling on him and i think he knew it too. he was done, we waved and went our separate ways. i felt that i could have pulled him and maintained from an even roll, but i also thought his car was pretty fast for what it was, 333 hp and all, maybe modded a tad?
any feedback otherwise on our runs with M3?
i beat an M5 through first and most of second until my judgement said not to do 80 on a curvy city street. i am sure those are faster.
my SRT is stock.

The older M5s are 400HP and the newer ones are 500HP. I raced a 400HP one and beat him, so I'm sure we'd have no problems with an M3.
The new M3 will have 420HP.

Send a message via MSN to Spectre
regarding the m5, he probably forgot about the M button when he was racing you, without depressing it, the engine is only doing 400hp. only when pressed is the engine remapped to sport mode and running at 507hp.

I read in a car and driver a while back when they put the Audi A8, M5 and 300C SRT8 all up against each other that their times were:
A8 479hp 389 torque 0-60 5.0, 1/4 mile 13.3
M5 500hp 390 torque (or so) 0-60 5.0 1/4 mile 13.3
SRT8 425 hp 420 torque 0-60 4.9 1/4 mile 13.2.
The difference was both the A8 and the M5 had more hp, but the torque was much lower. Plus those cars need to wind up so high to make their power, where the srt8 makes hp and torque right away.
This is why I always kill these cars on the freeway at 80 mph. I hit the gas and I'm in the perfect powerband. By the time an A8 or M5 (or even a Vette) figures out which gear to be in I'm already a few car lengths ahead.

you're right...the only way you'll get the jump on an e60 m5 at 80mph is if he's not ready because if he is, you're right in his kill zone!

btw, car and driver is a bit off...m5's are mid-high 12 second cars even with their detuned u.s. version of launch control.
