Humming Noise?

i hear a strange noise. it sounds like i am low on power steering fluid. however, when i accelerate, it gets lowder like a whine, the closest i can compare it to is the sound of a supercharger whine. it gets lower as i decellerate (spelling?).
any ideas before i take it to the shop? i only have 2100 miles on the car, very annoying.

Wow, that is odd. I was just about to suggest it might be the oil squirter noise that's been identified. Surely you must have a leak somewhere??? How long have you had your car for???

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty positive you can use ATF+4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid) for the power steering.

Yes, there are two different types. IIRC is Honda that uses a different type of fluid, but don't quote me on that.

Check the manual - there is a type of PS fluid which is easily available. I had a problem with the PS fluid leaking (turned out to be a bad mechanic, who didn't check the PS resivoir OR his work when making repairs after my neighbor ran into my parked car... Can you tell I'm still bitter?), and found the PS fuild readily available at a Pepboys/Autozone/yada yada.

Don't run the car with it dry. You'll kill your PS pump or rack, and that's expensive...

Well I guess in keeping with the topic of this thread, make sure you check your PS fluid first. If it is the oil squirters you're hearing, there's a TSB for that - http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/LX/TSB/TSB_0901106.pdf.

It recommends using Mobil One 15W50 oil. I've heard it myself, but it really never concerned me at all.

yeah there's no "special" fluid to use, apparently honda has a specific one or something. i just went to wal mart and got some that had leak protection. hope it lasts. still packin that warranty too

I've heard this noise on my CSRT8 from time to time. Seems to come on after a warm day in stop and go. Initially thought it was the tranny but this is a good point!

I'm headed out right now to check the PS fluid!
