Chrysler "Ride and Drive" Event

I attended a Chrysler event outside of Houston this evening after getting word from my dealer that the 300C SRT-8 was going to be there. Unfortunately the car was not available for driving (or starting) but it was available to view, sit in and touch. This vehicle was Silver with sunroof, navigation, sirius and all other options. Thankfully the event was not that busy during the first hour and so I was able to spend as much time as I wanted with the car.

The fit and finish look pretty incredible. It is nice to finally see the car in person. The car felt substantial, powerful and a bit understated. Most folks walked by to check out the trucks and mini-vans and only a handful of those who knew what they were looking at, stood and drooled.

The front seats were extremely comfortable and supportive around the bolsters. With adjustment it was easy to find a comfortable sitting position. Great leg room in the rear for my 6'1 frame. The steering wheel with the "technical" leather had a great feel and the dash looked well organized.

The tires were not F1's but rather the all season tires. A substantial portion of the tread was already worn off the back tires. The events folks indicated that the SRT-8 was getting a pretty good workout by the staff from time-to-time prior to each event. Their best estimate of tread life was between 7k and 10k miles.

Also got the chance to see the HEMI under the hood and check out the trunk space and rear battery compartment.

All-in-all an exciting experience given that I have been lurking on the board for the last couple of months enjoying everyone's posts and especially reports of those who have finally taken personal delivery of their new cars. I have indicated to my dealer that I'm about ready to get in line for an '06 and not really worried about having to wait. They've indicated that they will order/sell me an '06 for MSRP when I'm ready.

I'm ready!
