Newb Ques #1 (told ya there'd be some)

Hey folks!
Based on some reading here and elsewhere I've gathered that once you've ordered a car you can kinda keep tabs on it if you have certain information like the VON # and/or the VIN #. So, based on that contaced dealer and he was able to get a VON # and the last eight of the VIN #(why the complete number not available ).

So....now how should I specifically go about keeping track of the eventual production of the car? Everyone's thoughts on this much appreciated, plus the rest of the greenies probably might not mind either....

You can join Brampton and actually interact with the people who build the car. They'll also track your VIN# through the different stages.

You can also call DCX - 800-992-1997 Option#1 then #5. Give them your VON# since you don't have the full VIN# and they'll be able to tell you your car's status.

BTW..the 8 digits of the VIN is sufficient for the folks at Brampton to be able to track for you.

Sounds like you're on your way!!!

How quickly after getting the VON do you get the VIN? I called DCX yesterday and asked them that question and they told me you would get it late in the build process. I'm also watching my order like a hawk because I don't trust a single one of there dealerships.

The VON# is only the order number. Basically just a piece of paper until you get a VIN#. DCX is pretty clueless in that regard. The call center in MI is very good, but chances are you spoke to someone in FL. Bottom line is that you need to find out if your dealer has allocation.

I feel like a broken record. Take a look at some of my past posts. I'm not trying to come off as being bitter or discouraging but I was in the same boat as you when I first ordered. Actually, I still don't have a VIN#, but I know what questions to ask the dealer and DCX.

Best of luck!!

I don't want to sound like a broken record either, the questions was "When, in the process, do you get issued the VIN?". I believe your answer was "I don't know because I havn't gotten mine yet either".

Dude, if you think I'm trying to be anything but helpful, you're dead wrong. Do some searching.

You don't get your VIN until your order has been allocated. That's essentially when the 'process' starts.

Trust me, I know it from start to finish by now.

Like I said..do some searching. The answers are here. I was trying to point you in the right direction.

Shop for a dealer who already has a vin. Even though they have a vin, you can still change colors, options, and even get the "this vehivle built for . . . " put on the window sticker.

I think the people here should quit dealing with waiting lists and dealers who can't give you vons AND vins from the beginning. (I know - that won't be possible or practical for everyone).

I speak from experience, and my trip through the process is very well documented here. I promise you, every dealer is putting in an order as soon as DC gives them the allotment. There are plenty of dealers with vins in the system who have ordered cars that are not yet spoken for.

Change the questions you ask of the dealers. The only question should be "Do you have any SRT-8's already on order, with VINs, that have not yet been purchased."

If you don't believe me, check the forum for pictures of my car. I believe I'm the first person in the U.S. to take delivery (or at least within 36 hours of the first) - and I ordered on 2/4/05.

It dissappoints me to see so many people get led on by various dealers. Everyone complains about the bad ones, but mine was honest and forthright at every step. There are good dealers, with unsold VINs in their hands right now. Find them, and adjust the order to meet your exact specifications.

Good luck to all.

JMatt you raise a point of interest to me. I was told by my dealership that my vehicle, with a VIN assigned, can not have the wheels changed from AS to three season. Is this hooey? And if so, how do I convince them of this?
