Which cars REALLY compare to the SRT-8?

Enough with the mustang comparisons, and even the 5 series BMW comparisons. This car is a large, 4-door sport sedan. What really compares?

Edmunds says the backseat has 40.2 inches of leg room, which seems to me to be an important stat for comparing large sedans. I'll even go down to 37 inches of legroom. What other sedans will do 0-60 in 5.5 or less, with 37 inches of rear legroom - at a price within even $25,000?

This is a serious question. Do any other cars fit that description?

well, some dont and some do agree that the CTS-V is direct comparison...the leg room isnt as large and there is no auto trans option, but other then that the cars are very comparbale imo....i love both, but at the same time they are so not like each other....kinda weird

Post Short List

In terms of Cadillac, frankly, itz the STS-V that is the appropriate comparison (wheelbase/interior room/auto); the CTS-V is just a 6-spd "boy racer" .
Coming up second, is the E55 (which, unfortunately has the SRT-8 beat, if you dont factor in the financial side of the equation); and, finally, there are the high-line rice burners: all with torque-poor smallish V8s, so they dont count.
Hence, the incredible decision of GM to cancel its Zeta platform (V8/RWD) - leaving the entire market for real America sedans in DCX's hands.
Oops,..., left off BMW - maybe 'cause they are designed by Chris Bangle? http://www.petitiononline.com/STOPCB/petition.html

Comparing stangs and GTOs misses the point. This is a 4 door sedan, I agree the STS-V is the closest competitor, 7 series, E or S class, Audi S 8 and all of these cars are $70K+. Perhaps the sleeper comparison is the M45 or even the 300C , they are both within a whisker of the SRT 8s performance.

I agree with the M45 and 300c....

Not so much with the Luxury Sedans. Just traded one for my srt8- - two totally differnt types of cars. Other than that they are 4 dr sedans...it ends there. Audi 8, BMW 7...they are world class luxury, with strong performance added in. SRT8 is world class perfromance sedan, with a moderate amount of luxury added in..but it is truly an American Muscle Sedan, and the only true comparison out there is the STS, and the C.

Those new M45's are really nice. Even though not an exact match, that's a really close match to compare with.

Thanks for the comments.

I'd agree that the real Cadillac comparison would be the STS-V, not the CTS-V. The 5 series BMW is still too much smaller, but a base model 7 series is similar. The E55AMG is still a little small. The S500 would be a closer size comparison. Audi A8 perhaps. I hadn't thought about the new M45 from Infiniti - possibly the closest comparison of all.

In total, it seems that for $45,000 there really is no comparison. There are many other capable large sedans, but not for less than $70,000. To my thinking, if you want supreme comfort for four people going to dinner, or to take clients, but still want major league performance, that the 300C SRT-8 is the only car in its class for even remotely the same money. A loaded 300C is probably the only fair comparison.
