Sometimes I'm not so sure that I like my SRT8

Hi Guys!!

Like the subject line says...

Sometimes I'm not so sure that I like my SRT8. I find it frustrating. Then it dawned on me - it's the TIRES I don't like. Well... 'not like' is a bit strong. How about 'find annoying'. They're fine tires - don't get me wrong - they just take a long time - it seems - to 'warm up'. And when they finally do - the SRT8 is a JOY to drive. It's almost a 'night and day' difference. But until then - the tires feel HARD as if they have 50 lbs of pressure in them - and have a tough time sticking to anything. Anything beyond just gingerly pressing on the gas pedal and the tires SPIN SPIN SPIN. Well.. at least until the traction control takes over. Like I said... it's frustrating. It seem to take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes to warm up. Sometimes even longer. So I was wondering.....

Do the Goodyear F1 'SuperCar' tires take longer to warm up and actually STICK to the road than most other tires? Or is that just typical of any summer 'performance' tire? And short of giving the neighbours a 'smoke show' - is there a way to warm up the tires faster?!

Thanks,
Craig!!

Summer tires in cold weather is a no-no. They do need to warm up. Summer tires freeze up! Their rubber composition is softer and freeze up in cold temps. All-season and winter tires are designed to not freeze.

He's right Craig. I've lived in Victoria and although snow is rare, the temp is still near freezing and these tires just don't like those temps.

Hey, this is mid February! I remember roses in January there. I also remember cutting my grass about this time. What's going on there???

Find a good 275/40/20 to put back there. I like my toyo proxes 4s, but don't know if they're any good in the cold. They were a night and day difference in traction over the rsas in So Cal, though.

I would really like to find out what causes the front end shimmy at 80mph. sometimes it does it,sometimes it don't. I drove it to my dads house last weekend which is about 60 miles, 30 of which are on interstate. ran 80 on the way there and had no problem. on the way back.. it shimmy'ed worse than it ever has... nothing aggrevates me more. hell, i was driving a cheap grand prix rental a fw weeks back and it was silky smooth at 80.. why can't my car be that smooth?
okay. i'm done crying now

Sounds like a perfect excuse to trade up for an SRT8. No shakes for me at 80, even silky smooth at 160...

Thanks E55 KEV!!!

Hi Bernie!!

The last few days have been wonderful. Sunny and warm-ish. Pushing 50 degrees on some days. But it still gets down to around freezing at night. You're right - snow is rare - thank goodness. As for the roses and the grass - the flowers are just a week away from blooming and I'm starting to hear the roar of lawn mowers again. It's a nice place to live - that's for sure.

Have a great day!!
Craig!!

For sure, and you don't shovel rain. I used to work at Naden then went to 3PPCLI. Jeez, when I was with the infantry we went other places looking for snow and found it too...haha.

There's a revised alignment spec TSB that came out in Dec 07.
