Question sirius satellite radio help

hello everyone. I have a 06 300c SRT8 with nav, but how do I know if it has sirius satellite radio? should there be a button on it that says so, the manual is very vague. if it doesn't is there an easy upgrade to get it to run through the nav display in the car? thanks

Hit the "mode" button on your radio. If you see a "Sat" tab, then you have Sirius installed in your car from the factory. Also look for the black Sirius antenna on your roof. But you will still need to activate the account if you do have it.

If your car doesn't have Sirius installed, your local dealer can install it for you, and it will run directly through your nav radio. But I've heard that it isn't very cheap to have the dealer do the install. They will also need to cut a hole in your roof to install the antenna, and drop your headliner down to run the wiring.

As you are a Canadian with a 2006 model you can pretty much be certain you don't have Sirius. At that time the Canadian content was still being hashed out. Things look like that's been dealt with now though and it became available in 2007.

The Canadian site is pretty cheesy, but you can have a look at it here - Sirius Satellite Radio. BTW, your REC unit itself is Sirius ready, but as Dave says you'll need to do the antenna install. I don't know much about Sirius, but there's a possibility your dealer will have to flash it with the StarScan because in the mode button there is no Sirius tab on mine even though I was assured the REC is capable. Look for an antenna that doesn't require drilling holes in your roof.

Sirius Add-on

When I bought Inferno in 2005, Sirius radio wasn't yet established in Canada. I bought the Siruius unit through the Mopar Accessory book and installed it myself. It is not an arduous job. The receiver connects in the left rear panel behind the kicker, which I also added. Then you have to string the cabling to the centre console along the inside of the driver's rocker panels. If I remember correctly, there are only three wires to connect into the wiring harness of the Navigation unit. I didn't want to unlock the numerous pins in the connector, so I just slpiced the wires into it. The only remaining thing to do was the installation of the antenna. This is the part where you cry just a little as you mark and pound a centre punch mark in order to drill a hole in the roof for the wiring. The wiring connects to the shark fin antenna and runs along the roof line back along the left rear panel and connects to the receiver. The roof liner easily pulls down from the back once you have removed the "C" pillar covers. Total time from scratch, not knowing what I was doing and trying to figure out the manual - 3 hours.

Thanks for providing the info Dante. Maybe we should move this thread to the tech "how-to" forum. Does anybody else agree with moving this thread?
