Smile Shattered rear view mirror

Hello all,
My rear view mirror glass is shattered... I was wondering if I could replace the glass only... Dealer tells me I have to buy the whole unit. I find this strange, since the unit can be opened upo and esay access to the glass piece... If anyone has been in the ssame situation, pls help!!!

I can understand their reply if you somehow damaged the other units that are tied into the features on our rear mirrors.

If the ability for the mirror to dim is not affected by the damage, then I'll bet you can go to a glass/mirror company and they will measure, cut, and replace it for you.
