Run in with IS-F

an is-f was behind be today at a light. i decide to see if he knew what was in front of him and would try to do somethin.

so i made a right turn down an access road thats about 2 miles long.

he is on my ass as we pull on the access road and in my side view mirror, i see him at my rear tires and he guns it.

i was in manual sitting in first gear, we started at around 10 miles per hour.

i immediately pulled a lil bit and he never caught up by the time we had hit about 80 or so and i braked. there were some cars coming up in front of us.

had dealer tags on it and i knew the salesman driving it. i need to get him to run me for real soon, somewhere we have some more room.

so, pending a real run one of these days, i have added the IS-F to the "not happenin" list of cars that cant beat me!

after driving one of em, i was awful curious as to how it would do in a run. couldnt beat me down low, and thats where i thought they would win. i am doubtful it will beat me over 80 or 90 as well. our cars really start movin after 80 or 90.

stock for stock would have been a little different i think.

just an f.y.i

Hey Xialong if you have the time can you please explain to me what the Diablo Predator is, what it is exactly it does and how much it costs...also why is everyone with mods upping the temp. in their T-Stat?? What does that do for the car??
Thanks thegreekfreak@comcast.net

The predator is a hand held tuner. They run about $350 now. A 185 stat is cooler than stock.

um... I've seem the IS350 take the 5.7L without issue.

the IS-F is 600 pounds lighter with almost the same power as the SRT8.. What you went up against was someone afraid of messing up a car they don't own..

get an owner with any driving ability in that IS-F and he will smoke you like a Jamaican smokes ganja..

the SRT8 ain't all that.. there are plenty of cars with equal power that weigh much less..

for the record:

IS-F
416hp (SAE corrected) @ 6600 rpm with a 9K rpm redline
361rwtq @ 5200rpm
0-60 in 4.6 seconds
curb weight of 3760 pounds:

and it has an 8 gear tiptronic transmission

SRT8

425hp (SAE corrected) @ 6000 rpm with 6400rpm redline
420rwtq @ 4800rpm
0-60 in the low 5 second range.. avg is 5.1 to 5.4
curb weight @ 4160 pounds.

no freaking way the SRT8 can take an IS-F in a true race.. NO WAY even with an Intake, Exhaust and Predator tune..

the power to weight ratio give the IS-F the advantage period..

It's a bad a$$ car that is smaller, more agile, gets better MPG, and is faster overall from dead stop to top end then the SRT will ever be unless Chrysler gets off it's a$$ and updates the technology to something current and not 6 years out of date..

Well stock for stock, sure. But xiaolong isn't stock. With his mods I don't doubt the outcome. I put down similar #s with similar mods and I held pace with a brand new M3, so an IS-F would likely get the same treatment. As I said tho, stock for stock they will smoke us.

I disagree.. the only mods xiaolong are basic mods.. nothing extreme, he has no internal work, no cam, heads, etc that I see listed..

CAI and Exhaust and his tune is giving him about 25 more hp at the wheels. still doesn't make up for the 4200 pound curb weight, plus the weight of the fuel, his body and anything he is carrying in the car..

pound for pound the IS-F is more powerful.. and smaller.. even in stock form.. and the Jap cars take tuning and CAI/Exhaust better than the LX cars.. throw a Nuspeed or HKS exhaust and CAI on that IS-F even without a tuner or chip and it will pick up 20/30 hp.. The computer (ECU/PCM) is faster and smarter than ours..

The Canbus network on the LX cars was 4 years outdated when the LX's came out in 2004, it is old Merc-Benz technology, 4 - 6 years behind anything else out there, hell the Merc-Benz's are using Fiber Optic wiring on the higher end cars..

Sorry, Stock for Stock, Stock vs basic LX mods, no competition, the IS-F won't stomp an SRT8 but it sure as hell will pace it, and it won't lose.. it is faster.

even with his mods xiaolong can't barley be breaking the 5 second mark from 0 -60, even the 392 Strokers with forged bottom ends are barely getting 4.6 seconds 0 - 60.

the IS-F pulls mid 12's (12.3 to 12.7) at over 115mph in the 1/4 mile STOCK

the SRT8 is a 13 - 14 second 1/4 mile car.. with a good driver, interior stripped out and a good launch they might break 12.7 - 12.8 with CAI and Exhaust..

the car is just too heavy..

Marc, you're delusional.

Many 'a SRT8 has done a 4.5-4.7 0-60 on the street with a Predator, and a ~110MPH+ trap speed.

That's right where the IS-F is rated.

that post was about a STOCK car... copied from Motor Trend's site. on both cars..

not talking about a tuned car..

stock for stock the IS-F is faster..
stock for minor LX mods the IS-F is faster..

read the whole post before opening your mouth and insulting me..

his mods listed:

Current Mods:
Diablo Predator
CMR Custom Tune by Xtreme Horsepower
Resonator Delete
AirHammer CAI
185 Tstat
406hp, 420tq

I see nothing there that indicates anything internal has been touched.

CAI/Exhaust and a tune might bring him close, but the SRT8 is not going to Stomp an IS-F..

don't believe me, bring your SRT8 to Socal and you can race my CEO in his Stock IS-F.. my money is the IS-F will run neck and neck and not lose..
