Exclamation UPDATE: My Srt-8 Stopped Running And Won't Restart

Initial Diagnosis after the diagnostic analysis: "Multiple misfires on multiple cylinders"

Any techno heads out there wanna chime in on what this means. Sounds like a FUBAR module to me.

I was further told that they would continue to work on it tomorrow. I plan on bypassing the "Service Rep" and going straight to the guy with the tools or the Service Manager for that matter. This is clearly the most expensive and rarest car thet have in the shop and as Fredo said "It deserves some respect".

More to come tomorrow. I wouldn't wish this heartache on my worst enemy.

Bad coilpack or some glitch with the PCM. Don't suppose they gave you the code, did they? Those are common across platforms, so we could look it up. P0300 is what that should be, if I remember right. With P0301 being cylinder 1, P0304 would be cylinder 4, you get the idea.

I hope you didn't try that "acetone in the gastank" trick from another thread.

Anyway it sounds like you're getting yourself very worked up - remember that stress is self-inflicted. Your baby is under warranty so they're going to have to keep replacing-replacing-replacing if that's what it takes until they get it right and you're satisfied. Everything is pretty modular so just rest assured that it'll be handled -- even if those monkeys have to call up the DCX food chain to some bigger brains.

"multi misfires on multi cylinders" could mean an ACTUAL mechanical problem with the cylinders or surrounding mechanics, sure, or it could be a false error from the ECU or PCM... in any case it's good to know that the car's got the smarts enough to just shut itself down in CASE there's a mechanical problem so it doesn't potentially become worse.

My hunch is that there's no real physical damage that caused or resulted from the diagnostic analysis, so don't lose sleep.

It would be wise, with a car like an SRT-8, to get to know the service manager.

I've made that my practise over the years, and have been rewarded with some very good service.

That's a good point NR. I know my service manager, his reps & all the mechanics and I never refer to them as monkeys either, humph!

Typically, it means that the ignition didn't spark when the computer expected it to spark. It should be an electronic ignition module, or possibly even a fluke. I'm surprised they didn't read the OBD and find this problem in the first 2 minutes. It is not generally indicative of any kind of catastrophic failure though.

In an autocross event I missed a shift and ground a gear. The resulting engine stutter apparently confused the ignition, and it didn't fire when it thought it should. Error showed misfire on an entire cylinder bank (3 cylinders). A reset, and the problem never came back (because it was my driving, not an electronic malfunction).

You'll know soon enough, but my money is on the ignition module or a computer further up the line.

Keep your chin up!

I hope you are not equating your car with Mo Green, you know what happened to him. This is a sad situation, I would like to reiterate what others have said, this will be taken care of by DC, I can only glean a bit of frustration from a few issues I have had which have been fixed. Easy for me to say, "don't worry", the 8 will be fixed, but boy is it frustrating, we all can empathize.

Just remember that these engines are really complex (which can be annoying) but also that the engines won't allow themselves to become damaged (hense the shutdown). I hope everything works out well in the end.

Red face You all kick ass!!

I've had a pain in my gut for a full day here and you're helping get rid of it. It's pretty cool to be able to throw out a problem in a thread and have multiple, well thought out possibilities.

Thanks again and I will keep everyone updated as to the status.

How is the Chrysler Premium Carer Plan replacement car?

Just got something in the mail from Chrysler that generously offers to provide me with a rental car if I take my SRT8 to a Chrysler dealer within the initial warranty period for service. I presume this means warranty service too. Well the fine print looks to limit to just 5 days and only $30/day. Did you avail yourself to this consolation prize?

Also, what dealer did you go to. I think we are in the same area?

Good luck with the car.
