Inordinate brake rotor wear

Has anyone (with any miles on their SRT-8 yet) noticed terrible brake rotor wear?

I have more, and deeper, groves on my rotors after 2500 miles than on my other cars at 45,000-60,000 miles.

I'll try to take picture later today. Even if I am enjoying some acceleration from time-to-time, I'm certainly not hammering on the brakes to slow down at stop-signs.

What are the others here experiencing?

greeeeat.....Is it really that noticeable? How thick is the ridge on the outer most and inner more part of the rotor? Just noticeable with fingernail, or noticeable to the touch?

Softer brake pads are one thing, soft rotors are inexcusable.

I think mine literally need to be turned already. I can't believe this is a performance issue. I have the famous "big red brakes" on my 911, with 47,000 miles on them and the rotors show about 1/100th the wear that the SRT-8 is showing already.

Look at mine when brand new:

Well, it's my analysis that these are just cheap soft rotors....It's not the first time I've seen this. I changed the brakes and rotors on my girlfriends car (mini cooper) and after 2000 miles I saw exactly what you're seeing.

The ones that came off you would not believe, they were worn down about 1/8 of an inch.

Rotors nowadays just aren't made to be turned, they're made to be thrown out.

And THESE bad boys are gonna be expensive.

Um soft rotors do not a cheap rotor make. In fact, I'm a bit surprised at JMatt saying these look worse than his other cars at 45,000 - 60,000 miles considering he has a BMW 540. On a 540 you have to change the rotors every time you change the pads.

BMW and MB both say not to turn rotors. They use the soft rotors on purpose. You'll notice cars with soft rotors also put out a lot of brake dust because they use pads made of...I forget, but it's acidic (which is why you should clean your wheels with a delicate cleaner, like body shampoo or P21S wheel cleaner often). This combo makes for a very nice pedal feel and a nice stop feel. It's cheap junky rotors that are hard. If soft meant rotors were bad, then those Meineke lifetime pads and rotors would be good...but they're not, in fact they're just about the worst there is.

I think I smell a possible TSB coming down the road. I had a similar rotor issue with my Maxima. They were terrible and kept warping. This issue with the SRT 8 seems to be just as bad from a quality standpoint. I am still waiting for a company to come out with brake pads for the SRT 8 that won't create a millions pounds of brake dust.

No ****! I have just over 300 miles on her and I've had to wash the wheels 3 times already. We desperately need ceramics. That's my first mod.

If you change to ceramics, you'll also need to change the rotors. The soft rotors and pads are designed to go together, so if you go to harder pads, you ought to go to harder rotors (trust me, I found this out the hard way). But again, anybody who drives BMW's or MB's (especially older MB's) would never give a second thought to the amount of brake dust nor the rotor wear rate. With the stock pads for my 85 MB, I can turn the rotors black in one week (which about matches vvv's 3 washes in 300 miles). Which is why I'm surprised that JMatt is troubled by the wear considering he has a 540, unless perhaps he bought it used with aftermarket rotors/pads.

I don't see why there should be a TSB for fast rotor wear and lots of pad dust. Like I said my MB does it (rotors never lasted more than 22,000 miles since we bought it new and pads never lasted more than 9000 miles), my dads 540 does it, from what I'm told new MB's do it. It's not bad, it's just different.
