Front Mask/Cover for 8

I've mentioned before that picking up my car involves driving 2200 miles home. As any new car owner, I'm worried about picking up rock chips on the long trip. Last thing I want is to pull into my driveway for the first time with a chipped up front end.

Has anyone found a supplier who sells a front mask for the 8. I think it would be money well spend if I could find one.

Mask

Don’t bother with the mask, will cook your paint. Go with the paint protection, they apply a thin layer of tape on fenders, mirrors and around the grille area.

I plan to fly in and pick the car up from the dealer and start the drive home. I don't think I would have time to have the install completed. How long does the front end usually take?

Why does the mask cook the paint? I know dirt can get behind the mask and cause abrasion marks on the paint. Is that what you are referring to?

Thanks

It would take a day to install it. Maybe your dealer is set up for it, probably not. He could have someone come in to install it, if there is one in the area.

Bras are not good because of the dirt and gravel getting behind the bra. Plus, areas of stress or pressure will wear faster, at least that is my experience.

Any idea what it cost to have the 3M mask installed. The web sites i've visted fail to list a price.

Mask

By cooking I meant that after a while you will see a difference in the color shade of your car. As to the price, depends on the installer should be between $400- $600 dolla US. If you decide on this make sure you do bumper, mirrors, fenders, hood, and grille area. Some people even do the rear bumper.

How many miles a day do you plan to drive?

Where are you coming from and ending up - it would be a chance to meet up with other forum members - if you have time?

I know you'll be staying off the freeways to give the engine rpm variation to help run it in -no?

I haven't planned each stop yet but the trip will consist of driving from New Orleans to Sacramento Ca. We plan to drive thru Texas, New Mexico up thru Nevada into Cali.

I know the entire trip is around 2200 miles. It hurts to think I will put that many miles on the new 8r before pulling into my garage for the first time.

An earlier post suggested I arrange for the dealer to arrange the delivery from DCX to dealer in my back yard and pay an extra few hundred $'s. I'm all for that if it can be arranged.

I plan to call my dealer in the morning to discuss in greater detail.
