Question Brake Bedding

Just ordered mine srt-8, can't sleep because of it. The reason I'm posting is due to the idea of Brake Bedding. Has any one attempted to do so or considered it? Sounds easy when you read about it, don’t know in real life. Does any one know if the idea of Brake Bedding is for real or bunch of tech bull?

P.S. Trading in my F-150 SVT Lightning, hope it’s worth it

I was planning on bedding mine a few days ago, but we've been getting alot of rain in sunny Florida lately (and i didn't figure this would be to good an idea on wet roads) but i have asked several friends of mine who have brake systems similar to the SRT8's and they have ALL agreed with Dave Zeckhausen's recommendations in bedding these systems. They all claim much better braking once this is done in addition to eliminating squeaks, etc.
If you think about what this process is doing it really makes alot of sense.

Hopefully tomorrow night will be dry enough for me to do this and I'll be sure to let you know how much of an improvement I see. By the way, I haven't noticed anywere near the amount of rotor wear that some of the other owners have experienced. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm now constantly using the Autostick to make shifts (especially downshifts) and that I haven't really done much heavy braking yet. My car has 1500 miles on it but I'm still going to have the rotors checked when I go in for my oil change next week.

I wouldn't let the brake pad issue keep you awake at night seeing as the brakes have a seperate 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. What should keep you awake at night is just how bad ass this car really is!!!!!

edit......oh yeah by the way...it's definately worth it!!

Zeckhausen Bedding

Done twice over the past two weekends. Seems to have worked like a charm. Directions were impeccable, with the fade starting after the 8th or so braking from 60 to 10. What was very obvious - absolutely no fade whatsoever on the first 7 session-very impressive. The blue/gray coating or film definitely appeared, and maybe just impressions here, but overall braking has significantly improved. To all - Keep driving the 'beast'!

It's just as easy as it sounds. All we're talking about here is doing a series of near stops from 60mph, followed by a brief cooling off period.

Tech bull? Come on! The technique of bedding has been known to be effective for decades. This is not rocket science. You bed the brakes and the brakes work better. It doesn't get more simple than that. For the technical explanation of what's happening when you do the bedding, read: http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/bedintheory.htm. The author, James Walker, JR, is an ABS and dynamic stability control designer for Delphi who worked on, among other platforms, the brake control systems for the new Corvette C6. Now he's the head of Delphi's entire vehicle dynamics team. He teaches classes in brake control systems for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). And he's an accomplished race car driver. This is not an obscure, fringe theory. It's mainstream brake technology, understood and embraced by all the auto makers. (Just not well understood by the dealer networks!)

The next time you hear a friend complaining that their brakes squeal when presssing lightly on the brake pedal, borrow their keys and take the car out for a bedding session. By the time you hand back the keys, the squealing will be cured and your friend will think you are a magician. Just be sure to inspect his pads first to make sure the squealing is not the result of his pads being completely worn down to the metal backing plates! The bedding process works and it can easily be verified. Major pad manufactuers like Hawk include bedding instructions with each set of pads.

This is what I do for a living and I've helped hundreds of people cure brake squealing and judder problems by bedding. It simply works. And you can prove it for yourself.

Brake Bedding

My intention was not to upset any one; my knowledge of brake systems is minimal especially performance ones. The reason I posted was to find out if Brake Bedding is the right thing to do for us here. Thanks to DZeckhausen for reassuring me, that this is the right thing to do.

You didn't upset me, if that's what you mean. I went back and read my post again and could see how it could have come across that way. Sorry for not tossing in a few emoticons.

God! I love that banana!

Dave, just took another one of our company minivans out today. The driver was complaining of "pulsing" and wanted to book it in for a brake job (21,000 Km).

I have always insisted on our vehicles staying in safe condition, so she was surprised when I said, "It probably needs bedding. I'll take it home with me and do it"

Well, I just did the process this afternoon. Worked great.Saved me anywhere from $300 - $500.

Thanks again, Dave. At this rate, I'll be able to afford a big brake kit for my C, soon.

BTW, you wanted to know how the standard brakes would do during my track outing? I posted up a report on our day at Le Circuit here: NR's 300C Devastates Competition at the Track - Almost!
