auto transportation question

I know several of you have purchased your 8 out of state and arranged to have the car shipped home.

Can you give me name and numbers of the companies you used and how this service is priced. Also, if you learned any tips on what to ask or look for please share this information.

Now I'm thinking this might be the way to go.

There are several companys that you can ask quotes from. I got a hold of a Hemmings magazine and found about 10 companys that do interstate. From Kansas to Ca. the cost is about $1,150-$1500 for an enclosed truck and door to door. If you go an open trailer you talking about $800. I want the enclosed in case they hit a hail storm or hit a gravel road. The two companys that I'm considering are:http://www.vandamtrucking.com/, and
http://www.intercitylines.com/. Your rates will generally be best when you get a company that is close to either the place of departure or arrival. Cecil.....

My dealer has 130 private/company drivers across the country, so he set it up. Cost me just $200 to ship 250 miles. Probably underwritten by the dealer though.

There is a company called Reliable that ships Vipers from the factory in enclosed vans to the dealers, and also private shipping. 1000 miles would cost about $800 (a guess) one way. Look them up on the internet and call to get a quote. You probably wouldn't get it for a week or so, because they need to plan their shipments to have a full load, or close to it.

I had my dealer arrange to have it directly shipped form the factory to a local dealer. All I had to do was get hold of a salesman at the local dealer and ask if they would be willnig to receive and prep. They said yes for $200. My dealer called them and worked out the details.

Thanks, thats great news. I had no idea this was an option. I assume I should start to work out the details with the purchasing dealer then go from there.

Do you know if DCX offers this service to customers or was it an accommodating dealer that helped you arrange this?

I look forward reading more about how the dealer arranged the shipping for you.

My local dealer won't do a thing. He's P. O.'d that I didn't buy it from him. Of course he wanted $5K over MSRP. It would be nice if a local dealer would work with you, even though you didn't buy it through him. Cecil.......

Basically it went like this. I asked the purchasing dealer if he could have the car shipped directly to a local dealer instead of me flying one way across the country to pick it up. At first he said it couldn't be done because of insurance and liability reasons, but I pressed him on it because I had had another dealer do it for me and that first dealer had said from the beginning it was no problem. (I eventually pulled out of that deal after waiting 4 months with no vin). So the new dealer looked into it and said yes they could do it, but they needed a contact person at the receiving dealership and I needed to make sure it was ok with them as well before the out of state dealer would call. I called a local dealer, got a salesman on the phone, told him I had an SRT8 on order from out of state but wanted to have my SRT8 shipped to his dealership and serviced there and would they agree to receive and prep. He said no problem would be $200 to do it. (The first no vin deal I was in charged $250).I gave the local salesman's number to the out of state dealer and they called the local dealer and set everything up. Now just waiting for the brute to be built. Hope this helps.

This does help. I'll know more in the morning after talking to the sales manager. I did speak with the assistant manager this evening. He's concerned the car is to far along in the build process to change shipping insctructions.

I guess this is good news/ bad news in that I may receive the car sooner then expected but still would like to have time to arrange delivery to my local dealer.

Trying to own this car is a pain in the ass but the pay off is worth it.

AMGhunter - keep this in mind...

there have been a slew of 300C's last year that were set-up like harrysam described...
unfortunately, the cars were sold once they got to the dealer...
you really need some solid assurances and agreements and in writing to make this happen...
I have been told by the dealer rep. and others...
don't take the chance...
they cannot gurantee anything out here at this end...
that is why alot of us or trailering or driving it back to California...
just wanted to share another opinion of what has happened or what could happen - the downside...
Because in a perfect world - it should be exactly like harrysam described with no hassles...
good luck!
Sincerely,
