Performance Enhancing Substances

Anyone see the new full page ad in Road and Track for the SRT-8? This is a great ad, but why don't they wait until they need help selling the car? Save the money they spent on the ad and throw it towards overtime for the guys building the cars.

Because it generates traffic in the showrooms.

Every time I go to a new Chrysler or Dodge dealer and inquire about the SRT's, unless it is one of the rare dealers that actually has one on sale for a zillion dollars over MSRP, the salesman will:

1. Talk about how they are impossible to get
2. Talk about how expesive they are
3. Talk about how they are not much better than a 300C or Magnum R/T
4. Try to shoe-horn me into a 300C or R/T

How many uninitiated do you think go into a dealer and fall for this crap and end up buying a 300C off the lot instead?

THAT is why they run these ads.

You have to pre-buy national magazine ad space at least 6 months in advance...

It's their flagship car! The car in and of itself is an advertisement for the Chrysler brand as a whole.

It's not a bad idea to advertise it, do you think anyone is going to get excited about a Sebring add alone, even if they are in the market for one?

If people get it in their mind that Chrysler is all about performance, their other models will attain some of the prestige.

Okay they can run the damn ad. But they need to start building these quicker. I have no car yet and people are already talking about supercharger(which I will be doing).

Some other favorites from this month's R&T:

From the 2005 CTS-V long term test:

"... it goes through rear tires faster than the Evo: We replaced the rears (Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar EMT run-flats, $568 a pair) at 5800 miles, and again at 10,200."

From the 2004 Prius long term test:

"While driving on the transition ramp from one freeway to another, a light on the dash came on, and then immediately off; what was it? -Jerilyn Jeffery, Copy Editor"

"That was the "Warning: you have exceeded 0.25 lateral g" light. Keep those cornering speeds down, Jeffery! - Douglas Kott, Executive Editor"
