Diablosport Predator, CAI, TSTAT ...

Just got my Chrysler SRT-8 last weekend, and it looks like the performance mods "everyone" bolts on first are CAI, 180-degree TSTAT, and this Diablosport Predator tuner thingey. Then if you want to get more involved, throttle body spacers, exhaust, heads, cams, yadda yadda ...

So my quesion is mostly about this Predator thing: what exactly does it do? I see from the website you can change a bunch of settings like idle speed, etc., but what kind of horsepower/torque gain am I going to see with the "stock" 93 octane CAI tune (after I install my CAI of course)? Also, when the Predator web site says "Disable ESP", does that mean COMPLETELY disable it so that I can actually burn this thing out properly?

Lastly, what's the advantage of the 180-degree TSTAT? Is it just safer for the engine to run at cooler temps, or does it actually produce more power when it's running a bit cooler?

Thanks for the help guys!

"what exactly does it do?"
changes stock parameters in an attempt to increase horsepower/torque.
allows you to adjust shifting, reset tranny adaptation, control fans, diagnose your ride while driving. some see an increase in power, some see none, some lose power...unpredictable.

"Also, when the Predator web site says "Disable ESP", does that mean COMPLETELY disable it so that I can actually burn this thing out properly?"
you can burn out stock by holding the ESP button for several seconds until you hear a chime. predator will completely disable the ENTIRE system, which means ABS, yaw, etc....not a really good idea IMO

"what's the advantage of the 180-degree TSTAT?"

a cooler motor is a happier, more powerful motor that gets a little better gas mileage as well. so yes, u answered your own question here. with the predator's ability to control the fans, you can further optimize the thermostat to maintain temps more effectively.

welcome to the forums!

Get those three things, buy the best gas you can, it will run AMAZINGLY better.
Save the money on the TB spacer and buy a nice dinner instead.

Spacer may be a waste of money but I had one on another car and it made a unique noise I enjoyed. Not sure if it reduced my HP but it was different so...whatever

So you guys are saying the throttle body spacer isn't gonna do anything productive?

they can tend to make a whine.
doesnt do anything, like putting a bigger throttle body on our car with no internal mods. almost a waste, but it's your car, do as you wish.

Huh, that's weird that the power results are so unpredictable from one vehicle to the next. You would think adjustments to stuff like advancing timing, air/fuel ratios, etc. would have the same (or roughly the same) results on different cars. Weird ... now I'm not sure if I should get the Predator now! I'd be pissed if I choked up the $400 and LOST horsepower!

Your car is nearly identical to mine and others here that have seen great results with the Predator, CAI and T-stat. But, like others have said, do what you want, it's yours.
