300 SRT-8 vs STS-V!

Chrysler really must hurry and get on the ball and release the 300 SRT-8 version ASAP. The 2006 Cadillac STS-V will debut at the Detroit Auto Show in Jan 2005. That means the SRT-8 version must be released at the same show or 1-2 weeks earlier at the LA Auto Show in Dec 2004.

From thecarconnection.com:

"General Motors Performance Division engineers also were caught testing an STS V-Series engineering mule in Germany this week. The STS V-Series will be officially introduced next January at the NAIAS, and is expected to go on sale later next year. Power will come from a supercharged Northstar V-8."

They also are testing a new and "improved" version of the CTS-V. See photo at: http://chriscraftroamers.com/Testing_Germany.jpg
Might this variant also be supercharged?
Have never driven a Northstar which provided much "grunt" off of the line, hopefully the new STS-V will receive some serious engineering assistance in the torque department.

Aren't the Caddies front drivers? It seems the world is shifting back to RWD so I reckon GM are just trying to extract a bit more life out of the STS.

Thanks 300Chip, we don't get them here and I was too lazy to do my research :o. Our locally designed and manufactured GM large car is the Holden Commodore (US gets the 2 door version (GTO) from OZ) and they tell us in the local media that that is the platform GM is going to push all around the world under many of their different brand names because it was the most developed RWD platform GM has.

Sorry DrDeville - just my un-informed opinion.
Still, the new Cadillac STS-V ought blow more than its fair share of Bavarian iron off the line. I know we certainly surprise a few with our overweight '02 Escalade (345hp). Shocking really.
Chrysler & Cadillac are on a roll (where's Ford?).
Cheers!
Eric

GM gets credit for thier world class Cadillac product they have been developing over the last 10 years. Remember the mid to late 80s Deville, no way to compare with any import product, this is a new day. The 300C is a good example of how far Chrysler has come. SRT8 vs STS V will be interesting along with the much more expensive stuff from Deutchland.

While at the dealership today I jokingly asked when I can get on the SRT-8 list the guy replied early fall. I can’t wait.

PS Is that STS-V or CTS-V http://motortrend.com/roadtests/sedan/112_0309_v8_cad/

Yeah, Not to concerned about that Caddy. SRT-8 6.1 ltr 440 horse naturally asperated. Anyone know the truth behind the Dodge version having a 6 speed?! I would hate to let go of my 300C, but a manual hipo version would be the twist of the arm I might need!
