Just great, NOT!!

Well, spread the negative word for me guys....This Magnum SRT-8 has been put up for sale My wife isn't really giving me the story on it, but she is adament about it. Not that it helps the sale any, but I may be included in the purchase price

Todd,

It is not the end of the world, I know it is hard to deal with when you don't know eaxactly what is wrong with the car. Let's talk about what is really wrong. You have some smoke coming from your exhaust on start up, but the engine run as strong as ever. Stop over thinking this issue, pony up and take your car to the dealer and let them start the car each morning and ask them evne if they see the smoke what are they going to do but say "yes I saw smoke". They need to see something to justify why they are going to tear into the motor. Telling them thier guys beat the car and there is smoke on start up once in a while is not enough. Ask them if you can video the take a picture to show it, then carry a camera in the car for each start up. I was the mechanic on the other and intermittent issue were a bitch at times. Customes come in and complain the car does something first thing in the morning..... so we ask for the car overnight (they love that) to duplicate the issue. Sure enough the next morning the issue doesn't appear, we report that and the customer usually gets mad. I understand why they get mad, they want the car fixed and they think we have some special magic wrench to do so. They are spending money on a rental for their car to sit there at the dealer for another day. It is a 'catch22' Believe me as a mechanic we want nothing more than to find the issue and start replacing crap, we get paid for replacing parts, diagnostic time sucks (unless you have a good manager).

Did you pull the plugs yet? probably not.. what is stopping you? grab a 10mm and 5/8. Find the discolored plug vs the rest.

If you really want to quit then go right ahead

I say you send the little lady to the spa and you grab a wrench and fix the damn thing. If you want the easy path then just tint the rear view mirror and side mirrors to the point you can't see behind you (small joke)

John,

It isn't the car, my wife is pissed about the dealership and visiting it. The A/C issue was blown off in her mind, which it probably was, typical of factory warranty work. The smoke/condensation at startup is going to turn into a huge number of visits before they do anything about it and she isn't happy....I could care less. Her Escalade was in the shop 4 times for rattling and banging under the thing before the 1st month was up, yet she didn't complain....

Anyway, keep the comments up about it being in for service, as nobody will want to buy it and I get to keep it. All the better for me and then I don't have to answer the first reply to the topic....

A devious person might mention these issues to any potential buyers, just being "honest".

In any case, if I was wanting to sell a vehicle, and had a SRT-8 and an Ecalade in the stable, the Caddy would have to go. It goes from 0-60 in what, a week and a half?

Ask her to relax and that you will deal with the car, until you know what is wrong and how it happened all you have is speculation. Take off the rest of the day and dig in.
