Beefier half shafts available anywhere yet?

After several members here and on a few other forums began breaking half shafts at the drag strip with power mods and/or LSDs, there was talk of several different vendors possibly providing stonger aftermarket replacements. Have any of them come to market yet?

Yes, I just bought and received a pair of drag radials.
Yes, I am afraid I'm going to pop a half shaft.

Not that I've seen and I've been looking everyday > We know HalV48 and Needforspeed are working on it as is Hemi31 ..I think . Drag radials were going to be my next move(still might be) ..then this half-shaft fiasco . I wonder if it was the Nitrous(violent shock) that did it . I'm running completely NA.........and am having traction issues at the track to say the least . Would love to try DR's .....maybe in the spring . Good luck , Mike.

Pardon my ignorance, but can anyone explain what a half shaft is? Is it part of the transmission?

Frome wikipedia: "A half shaft is an automotive term used to describe a driveshaft that goes from a vehicle's differential to one of the driven wheels."

Its essentially 1/2 of an axle, 1/2 to the driver's rear wheel and a 1/2 to the passenger.

I'm been looking for these also. More horsepower will equal alot of breakage for many people soon.

I'm playing Devil's advocate here....... but when someone comes out with Stronger half shafts - - and someone surely will - - THEN what is going to break? Differential?....... you beef up the weak link and something else is going to break. And it may be something much more expensive to fix. Just food for thought.

With enough power, sure something else will break. We know that the trannys are good for up to 600 ft/lbs of torque, so the next thing would be the driveshaft or differential. If (God willing) I start putting down serious horsepower, I'll put the LSD in and see what happens next. You gotta pay to play.
