Without revealing state secrets, mapson, it's all in the design.

Nothing even comes close to the AirHammer in its ability to accelerate the air charge into the intake manifold.

The most significant item of difference, ocho, is the design of the intake itself. It's primarily here that the AirHammer out strips the competition.

Since Meister is being so modest I’ll post his couple of threads about the AH for you.

The Ultimate AirHammer

AirHammer makes automotive history

Yes, you will feel it pull harder - it gets even better with an exhaust to really let the engine breathe though. Everyone has to make their own cost/benefit analysis. I did mine before the AirHammer was available, but the AFE is still on my car.

Also.
My intake is made of heavy Stainless Steel ( not plastic) in the USA from all US origin parts. The Airhammer comes in a variety of finishes and is color customizable in just about any powderocated color you want.
the filter that is in it is custom made for me by AFE and it is a full race filter that is the largest with the deepest pleats you can get.
It also makes the best power, is the loudest and has the most 'in your face' factor of all intakes.
AFE's is a great product for the price point and I will say that the AirHammer is NOT for everyone. Only those that are willing to take it to the top limit of air induction capacity should use the AirHammer.
Everything I make is military grade super duty tough and I back it with this gaurantee:
You dont like it, I buy it back.
Simple...

more interesting comments at this thread i started wondering about the benefits of a CAI.

Cold Air Intake (CAI) - Should I even bother?

consensus seems to be for the ultimate in peformance, the Air Hammer is the way to go. of the other "off the shelf" CAIs (K&N, Mopar, AFE, AEM, Volant, etc.) AFE is the the choice.

Not having used either one, the primary difference, as far as I can tell, is stainless versus plastic. There may be a slight difference in performance with the edge going to the Hammer, but the gap there is miniscule compared to the performance gap between these two and "all others":

100-Airhammer
99
98
97-AFE Stage II
96
96
95
94
93
92
91
90
89
88
87
86
85
84
83-Whoever is third
82
81
80
79-stock box with K&N
78
77
76-stock box with OE filter

Bottom line, both kick the crap out of anything else you might put under your hood, but the $200 price difference is primarily for upgraded materials and aesthetics. If I had the $$$, I'd buy the airhammer, but I'm "po folks", so it's a K&N sandwich for my stock air box.
