Question Purchasing a Thermostat, What degree?

I just got my srt8 and i hate the fact that the temp is always at 220 degrees. I will be purchasing a cooler thermostat. I want to know what degree thermostat is the best for hot South Florida driving? 180 or 190 degree? Thank You.

Should be fine .Keep us posted . Do you also have a fan switch (like the GSM fan mod/torque delete ) so you can manually override the fan control ?This might come in handy in your neck of the woods .

That thermostat got a good review in Meister’s thread that Ultimate put a link to so you should be fine. In case you need to know more about the fan mod here are a few links that discuss it. It does get rather warm down here.

What was interesting about this post was I just received a PM from another member asking me the exact same question…also from Florida. They’re not the same members, but I just thought what a strange coincidence. You’re still the Ultimate one!!

Oh I know exactly the rest! I almost got two black eyes last night….I’ll have to tell you about it later.

Now about that fan mod! Did you know you could do it yourself for .25 cents?

First off the 25 cent fan mod worked greatly. We'll the results are in on my installed motorad 4127, the 176 degree thermostat. The outside temp was 75 degrees. The oil temp was between 220-230 and the water temp was between 180-190 on the highway. In traffic the water temp is the same as factory being between 210-230 degrees. So far I like the results of the thermostat because the best operating tempature for a engine is btween 180-190 degrees. The reason they come so hot is for emissons. Screw Emissions!!! (becasue i live in FL there are none). If i were to recommend a thermostat this is the one.

Excellent news! Glad it all worked out for you to do all of this and save a few bucks as well. Congratulations! No Florida doesn’t have emissions…especially where I live as they burn the sugar cane fields all over the place!
