hey guys i know this is a little bit off topic but i just put the k&n cold air intake on my 300C 5.7L. The performance is horrible compared to stock and the engine revs higher than it ever had to with less torque all throughout the rev range. I have had it looked at by three different dealerships and they say it is installed properly. I have also allowed time for the computer to try and adjust to the new intake but i'm still getting nowhere. Does anybody know what i can do because so far i am very tempted to reinstall the stock intake.

I just made a CAI and then added the CAI/91oct canned tune and I noticed a good difference from my 91oct tune. The zip tie is a temp. I'll make a small bracket soon. It also makes the exh. louder. $85 to make.

Have you tried putting the stock intake back on yet to see if that fixes your performance problem? I have seen testing where some CAIs can reduce power slightly but the performance should not go from normal to horrible just by installing a CAI. On my car, I have the Predator 91 CAI tune and the combination definitely makes more power (and motor music) than stock. There is also no loose in torque at lower revs either. My CAI is a home brew setup that is very similar to the steel Air Hammer in that it increases in diameter uniformly from the throttle body to the giant filter, kind of like a sawed off alpenhorn. I suspect that any performance gains from CAIs on the 5.7 are due to intake tuning and not due to freer breathing. Tuning is probably why some CAIs actually loose power slightly and why the Air Hammer makes a bit of power.

Your coolant loooks bad freedom, I'd go to the dealer for a full power-flush and refill of the system, maybe they will even give you a new reservoir. Good luck,

Eric

Thanks.

I'd stick to the Mopar coolant, we just had bad stuff come out of the facotry when they were building them. The Mopar stuff I believe is Zerex G-02 organic acid...don't quote me on it, but after my initial flush and a refill with Mopar I've been good for 30k miles - so the new stuff will not re-gunk on you.

Cloudy coolant - any thoughts/answers?

There is a coolant called Quantum Blue that's supposed to be the best, you could try that. I have no experience with it.

Question. I installed a K&N drop in filter after a recommendation from several people that the SRT8 airbox is well designed and gets air directly from the bottom. I am now looking at te Diablo Preadator. With the drop in filter, can I use the tunes that call for a CAI? The stock setup seems like a good design to me? Anyone do any dyno testing to confirm this?

I doubt that there is enough difference in air flow with the K & N to warrant using the CAI tune.

I vote that we officially change the name from Cold Air Intake to "Custom Intake". First of all, the ones that I have seen do not suck colder air than the stock intake system. Some of the custom intakes do make a little extra horsepower though and it is not clear whether it is from less air restriction, intake tuning or a combination of the two. Personally, I think it is mostly a function of intake tuning, otherwise, anyone could slap on a big filter and get some increase. Notice that the Air Hammer, which does make some extra horsepower, has an smoothly increasing diameter like a musical instrument whereas examples of the intakes that do not make extra horsepower seem to be uniform diameter tubes leading to a custom filter. The AFE Stage 2 is also a smoothly tapering design.

So it begs the question, if a custom intake system makes no additional horsepower on a stock tune, will it take advantage of the predator CAI tune over the non CAI tune?

I'm sure you noticed the stock tube kind of does the same thing with changing diameter of the tube that increases as you go away from the motor. I believe the correct term for these kind of intakes is a short ram intake, a cold air would be one like the RDP or GSM design that snakes out of the engine bay. Good points...
