Superior Automotive 426 c.i. in Hot Rod

The August 2007 issue of Hot Rod contains a six-page article on the Superior Automotive "poke and stroke" of the 6.1 to 426 c.i. Superior actually mills out the bores and then installs wet sleeves. They claim this avoids the use of supershort forged pistons which other engine makers use to get increased displacement. Because of the short skirts, the pistons don't live long in street/strip applications before they begin to rattle, rock, burn oil, and allow blow by. Cost $3,800 for machining,$1,450 for Castillo crank, $820 for Ross pistons, $1,300 for Manley rods, $550 for ARP head and stud kit. Claimed 550 crank hp with mild porting and intake manifold blending. Over 700hp with a supercharger.
