Question SRT-8 1-2 Transmission Flash

I have learned a lot of valuable information from this forum.

I recently had the transmission 1-2 flash performed on an '06 #300 SRT-8
by my local dealer in NJ.

I understand that the 1-2 shift will occur automatically while operating in auto-stick mode.

At what RPM is this supposed to occur ?

I am trying to verify that the TCM flash actually occurred.

Thanks.

There's a HUGE thread on this located here:

http://www.300cforums.com/forums/srt...ansmission+tsb

I've ridden in cars that have been flashed for the update and there's more to it than just making the car shift, in AutoStick mode, prior to hitting the fuel cutoff point. The shifts seem crisper at all speeds, it downshifts sooner and there's no delay between shifts, especially when you are at the RPM limit.

There seems to be difference of opinion on exactly at what RPM the shift occurs. General consensus is that the tach indicated RPM may be lower than the actual engine RPM as the tach signal may be causing some lag. Also, it's a bit hard not to look away from the tach when you are at WOT. Seems we all want to see where we are going and whether or not we are about to hit something so it's a little hard to accurately test this. You can get a digital tach display on your EVIC but again, looking away from the road at WOT is a hard thing to do and this method may not be any more accurate than just watching the tach needle.

To Test:

Put your vehicle in AutoStick mode and go to WOT. Don't move the stick. If it shifts without you doing so manually, the transmission has been flashed. If the transmission does not shift, vehicle hits the fuel cutoff and bogs down, it hasn't.

Hope this helps!

I'm getting mine done next week. I was convinced this is a good thing to do after riding in a Magnum SRT8 last week. The owner really put the car through its paces and demonstrated how the trans functions with the flash.

Thanks MadDog.
I had it to about 5500 rpm and it still was in first gear.
I will bring it up to the redline and see if it shifts automatically.
I also pulled fuse 11 and definiely had a better throttle response.
My normal driving is low RPM highway driving.
It's nice to know that these cars can be "relearned" to change throttle response by pulling the fuse.

You're Welcome, NJSRT-8. This forum is about info and passing along knowledge. It's my pleasure to pass along what I've learned. So many here have helped me it's incumbent upon myself to do the same.

I had it to about 5500 rpm and it still was in first gear.

You aren't at redline yet when you hit 5500.

I will bring it up to the redline and see if it shifts automatically.

Exactly the thing to do. I know without a doubt mine hasn't been flashed. When I hit redline, she shuts down momentarily. I hit it so hard once the car went into limp mode for 10 - 15 seconds. Kinda freaked me out!

I also pulled fuse 11 and definiely had a better throttle response.

Great! The secret there is to drive the car hard after pulling the fuse ...
large throttle inputs and some agressive AutoStick usage. Also, I've noticed that my car is "waking up" a bit after some miles have been put on it...I'm at 3500 now and have noticed better shifting in regular auto mode, more agressive tranny kickdowns when getting on it - also in regular auto mode - and better mileage, too!

My normal driving is low RPM highway driving.

So is mine - 22 miles one way daily commute in traffic. But I take my opportunities as they come to push it hard.

It's nice to know that these cars can be "relearned" to change throttle response by pulling the fuse.
They will also re-learn soft driving over time so pulling that fuse is not a one time thing. Look at it as regular maintenance...pull it when you notice the performance starting to "dumb" down a bit, then take it out and drive it hard.

Glad to help. Let us know how the WOT to Redline test goes!
