I keep asking myself this same question of which heads and cam combo to buy.
From everything I have read the above mentioned vendors are all good but which one has the best bang for the buck? I know prices will vary but it doesn't make sense to me to pay considerably more just to gain that last 5 extra horsepower. However, I do want solid gains from a quality product that will last the life of the car.
Because there are so many combo's available, I know this is a difficult question to answer but your wisdom is appreciated.
Hmm, Let me take a stab at this for you guys. 1st, dyno numbers on seperate dyno has too many variables to compare each head and cam package. But for ****s and giggles the highest posted dyno was hhp stage2 made by phillyjohn (480+ whp and 460+wtq) 2nd, here is a breakdown of numbers I've seen at the englishtown raceway of the different companies. Bevsjeepsrt8 (srt8oc.com) ran a 12.1 at 112 with his jeep with dynamic racing heads and comp cam 268 with a 1.7 60ft. Panajeep (srt8oc.com) ran a 12.3 @ 109 with his jeep with a 1.8 60ft with hhp stage2 heads and cam. Hemi31 ran a 12.4 at 112 in his magnum with a 1.8 60ft with frank racing heads and comp cam268. Jonzmgnm (lxforums.com) ran at 12.8 @ 109 with a r/t magnum with mopar heads and franks racing littleboy cam. Everyone mentioned has a b&g (hemi31 has a stage3) except jonzmgnm. He has a superchips tune. I've yet to see a ppp or hemishop head run on the track but did see times post from the shindig. They did very well.
Now that you see these numbers does it help you at all? Again, they are too many variables to compare when they are not on the same track on the same day or on the same dyno on the same day.
Price wise, Dynamic racing and Franks racing are the lowest prices I've seen posted for the parts. Hemishop and HHP I've seen as the highest. All the others fall somewhere inbetween.
One thing I'd watch out for with the factory cnc heads is the fact that some of the production 6.1s had a valve spring floating issue that resulted in a few valves getting stressed and leading to a bad cylinder. While it looks nice on paper that the SRT engineers designed those heads, well it comes out of a factory...
I'd prefer to have a set of heads worked by a machine shop that knows the heads, choses the right valve springs, the right keepers and makes sure everything is checked, double checked and checked again. Plus a good shop will make sure your valve springs match your cam. Again, be sure they're good because there have even been a few people using hi performance springs with the wrong thickness retainers and that has led to stressed valves.

Boy, just when I was about to pull the trigger on a combo set. I just went back to square one! Hate to put something in my baby and end up sitting around waiting for it to come back from the shop because guys didn't do the right thing. If I was to go to a shop quite a distance away and something goes wrong I don't have the time to go back and fourth!

As I told you in a PM (think the guys here should know too) there is a guy close ny/nj/ct area. He actually is in stamford, ct and very close to you undertheradar. He was a chrysler tech for over 10 years and know owns his own performance shop. He did tons of guys torque converter installs on the forum. His name is Tony...
I talked to the guys a PPP and I was impressed with their level of customer service and the time they took to speak with me. I have not bought anything yet but I am getting closer and I'd talk to those guys again first for sure. Other then that since I live in NJ I'd speak with the 402 Motoring crew too. I have also heard great things about the Mopar heads amd the Indy heads too.
