Great write up Dave! Happy to be one of your test subjects. You never got back to me on how your car took the adjustments. Hope it helped a little.
I filled up my tank @ Costco yesterday ($3.439 for "Premium" 91 Oct) and i just could not find anywhere anything on the ethanol mix. Where the hell does it says it?
Sorry to hear about your Gramps Dave.
The adjustments work great. The car feels like a new animal. The only problem is that it has been drizzling the last couple of days and I haven't been able to really get on it. But after I made the adjustments I took it out for a spin and the word "wow" popped into my head. Thanks for providing the numbers.
Thanks for the condolences for my grandpa. He had almost 89 great years on earth and I was blessed to be a part of it for the last 39 years. My grandma, his wife of 63 years, is having a very difficult time. Please say some prayers for her.
Dave you are correct on the fuel situation, but it gets even more complicated,All of us in the cold regions get 4 different blends per year.By law it has to state if there is ethanol in the fuel on the fuel pump. The formulations change with the seasons.Ethanol blends are considered oxygenated fuel and is required to be used in metro areas classified as non-attainment zones.Outside of these zones they are not required to blend with ethanol.Fuel blends in the winter up north here ignite faster for cold driveability, fuel blends in the summer ignite slower to prevent knock in the heat.Fuel in the southern warm climates can use the same blend all year.Without ethanol fuel burns hotter more BTU.If you go out of metro areas by about 60 miles you could have no ethanol.I live in the chicagoland area so starting around DeKalb,Il, you will start to see fuel without ethanol.Hope this helps everybody out.
Welcome to the forum newbie! I'm not too worried about the change in fuel mixture throughout the year. Our PCMs automatically adjust for the changes in fuel over time. But it is a fact that we have the ethanol blend year round in IL. Even if the pumps in the more rural areas don't have the ethanol sticker on it, it still has ethanol in the mix. From what I understand, it is up to the county as to whether the gas station has to disclose it. The only thing that changes during the summer months is that they put even more additives in the gas here in IL to make it burn cleaner. But that junk is very hard on modern fuel injection systems. Frickin environmentalists.

That's a fact. For the last two years, my SRT8 will hard-start when the changeover occures in the spring though it adapts fairly quickly. My Mini Cooper S never adjusts and regularly takes two attempts to start beginning when late spring arrives. Only recently, as the mix is changing, is it starting the first time again, just like last year.

Something I agree with and see everyone is over looking. This comes from Mike at Diablo regarding a question from Mike L.

To properly dial in the tune, you need to log and determine your own changes, rather than what worked for someone else.
Dave it is a federal law.It has to state on the pump that there is ethanol in the fuel.If there is not a sticker on the pump there should be no ethanol in the fuel.I might be new to this forum, but in my business i purchase over two thousand gallons of fuel per week. All the information i gave you was from my fuel supplier.Trust me i gave you the short version! Tomorrow my supplier is dropping off all the information about fuel, more then I care to know.Should make for good bathroom material.

Actually, it depends on the state. The federal government does not mandate the disclosure at the pump of ethanol blends or any other oxygenated fuel. But I was mistaken and misspoke eariler. IL does require the disclosure of ethanol if there is at least 1% in the mix. The information about county came from another source that I guess wasn't very reliable or the info was old. The states that do not require the disclosure of ethanol or any other oxygenated mix are as follows:
California
Dist of Columbia
Hawaii
Indiana
Kentucky
Maryland
Minnesota
Nevada
New Jersey
Tennessee
If you live in any of the non-disclosure states, the chances are high that you are still buying oxygenated gas. In Colorado, it does not have to be disclosed unless there is "over" 10% ethanol. I hope you find this helpful.
I just heard from Firemedic about his adjustments. He has the exact same mods that you are planning and had his car dyno tuned at the same place that Brute SRT did. Apparantly, the higher flowing cats require a tad more fuel to be optimal. There are his adjustments:
Add 4% fuel to all RPM ranges
Add 2% spark to the first 2 ranges and nothing to the 5-7k range.
According to Diablo's website, these guys show up as the only Chrysler CMR tuner in our area:
Hahn Racecraft
1981-D Wiesbrook Dr
Oswego IL, 60543
630-801-1417
Dave thanks for the info, are these changes to the performance tune or the cai performance tune?
Yeah i saw Hahn Racecraft, I thought i would like to know if someone has had a tune from them or maybe i'll just go check them out after the intake and exhaust mods.
