Question How do I know if I have a Chip or Tuner

Go easy on me. Sounds like a dumb question I know, but wait, I can explain.

I purchsed a Silver 2006 300 SRT8 out of Tennessee and drove it back to Texas. The car had 4600 miles on it, looked great ran great, life is good. Now 14 months later, and 14,000 miles, I NEED MORE!!! The car had Magnaflow exaust and a cold air intake(K&N), and a few minor appearance mods, when I bought it. How do I know if it has a chip or tuner. Where do I go from here? Headers? Thermostat? Need some guidance. Need this to double as my business car as well so no crazy stuff...baby steps here.

New to the forum. This stuff is great. Thanks in advance.

it is doubtfull that you have a "tuner" in it.

the diablo predator, a.k.a. "tuner", only works on 1 vehicle at a time, so if someone had it on the car before you, they more than likely restored the stock tune because had they not, their predator would be rendered useless. it stores the stock tune on it and will only work on one car at a time, it will only "tune" one car at a time.

even IF it had a tune on it, you still need to get a predator in order to adjust or restore your car back to stock anyways.

so, get the diablo and have fun. everyone else is doing it!

for the other part of your questions, yes you should get a 185 thermostat. this, in conjunction with the predator, will allow you to keep your engine temp under control as well.
mine stays around 188-190 all the time.

get a CMR(custom dyno tune) tune done with the predator and see how ya like it then.

if you still want more, go with a cam, headers, port and polish job, and i guess stroker after all else fails to make ya happy!

then there's forced induction.

YOUR NEXT MOD MUST BE A DIABLO PREDATOR. Bolting on parts is exactly that without tuning it....bolting on parts.

WARNING: The diablo is really hard on stock tires. I could roast my rsas all the way deep into third (and once you figure how to do that, good luck holding back). You'll need some 275/40/20s soon after getting the diablo.

You guys are great. I am impressed with this forum!!! I am going to get a thermostat either 180 or 185 and the Preditor tuner for sure. Then I will probably be chiming for some more guidance.

I was checking out the exhaust while my car was at Discount Tire getting the tires rotated and noticed that the Magnaflow exhaust has the two muflers at the rear, then about half way back towards the engine, there is another Magnaflow box that both pipes go through, then just underneath the engine there are two smaller round muffler looking things. Can someone explain in plain english. I am guesing that those are maybe the resonators??? Any help is appreciated. Need all I can get.

Welcome to the Forum. Sounds like you've gotten alot of good advice already. Can't help you with the exhaust but I don't know much about it either. I just got a predator and it's made the car a whole new beast. I'm spinning and sliding all over the place with the ESP on and brand new rear tires. What part of Texas are you from? There are some good LX clubs that can help you out as well.

The center muffler is nick named the suitcase. The rear mufflers are called resonators. My friend's srt8 has the magnaflow exhaust too. When we both dyno'd on the same day getting our diablos dialed in he was about 12-14 hp higher than me (when I had stock exhaust and all other mods we were the same). The tuner said his car took more fuel because of the free flowing exhaust.
On my stock exhaust I had expiremented with removing the suitcase. I lost 20 hp on the dyno by removing it (I put my friend's above stock exhaust back on and still have the suitcase exhaust in my backyard killing weeds). It is an expansion chamber and helps. So leave it alone. The magnaflow exhaust is tuned and produces just about the highest gains. Others claim corsa is the best but I only see other members claim a 10 hp gain with corsa.
