MotorRad thermostat

For anyone who has changed out the factory thermostat with a lower temp part; did you re-use the o-ring from the factory part? The 4127 model from AutoZone did not come with the o-ring/gasket.

I got one I'm installing this weekend and I'm planning on reusing the o-ring. Hope it works.

Well, let me know how it comes out. It's a cinch of a job, but if the o-ring is toast, it'll be a problem.

When I changed mine out I just used the gasket from the original thermostat. No problems at all!

You can use the original gasket. Just take care when you remove and replace the Tstat. The motorad will be tight but work with it and it will fit. Make sure you put the bleeder valve hole at the top!

The rubber gasket should be good to reuse, mine was. The 4127 is 0.5mm bigger in diameter than the stock thermostat. I read that the 63.5mm 4127 still fits but is a little more awkward to install so I just took some emery cloth and reduced the diameter down to 63mm so the thing just goes in easily. Changing the thermostat is really easy if you use the "Meister" method of catching the spilled coolant in a plastic bag and just pouring it back into the overflow tank. Don't forget to put the thermostat in with the bleed hole up.

Very quick changeout. It was wise to sand down the perimeter a bit as the fit is ultra precise. Here's how it went:

minimal fluid poured out. I just hosed off the front of the engine a bit, then added a little antifreeze to make up for the loss. Make sure you use Dex-cool when replacing (or Mopar equivalent)

Good pictures of the install. I didn't bother taking off the intake tube, I just rotated the silencer up and out of the way.

A spritz of silicon lubricant on the gasket helps it slip right in there with thumb pressure applied around the perimeter.
