Getting ready to change oil in my Srt8c and just wondering what you guys are using for oil, Or if I should use something besides what it calls for
0W-40 or 30. I live in Southren Illinois.
40 on a cool day. Unless Kuwait is hotter than Dubai? It was 47 the last time I was there...got down to about 40 at night!
Steve,
What brand are you using? Is it worth paying $10 a quart for redline?
Matt
Matt,
Only if you're going to track it or go an extended interval. It's really fantastic earl, but almost too good.
M1 is better than most need and commonly lasts 10k in ordinary cars.
I use Amsoil Dominator 15w-50 in my car and it loves it. But I have run the M1 (same grade) also and really can't tell any difference.
Being out of warranty, I was looking to extend my interval...I guess if I extend it 50%, the redline oil pays for itself, right? My biggest concern is that right after I let the M1 stay in 5k miles once (including Colorado-Ohio-Wisconsin-Colorado-Wisconsin in a 2 week period), I read somewhere that the M1 starts allowing a ridiculous amount of engine wear after 1-1.2k miles. Oops! I might look into a 15-50 when I move out to Monterey in about 18 months...and maybe for the Summer around here.

To the OP, I live in Cincinnati and the 0W40 has been just fine. Buy Mobil 1 oil and filters when it is on special at Pep Boys or whatever and use about 4k intervals and I bet you will never have a problem due to oil.
