Trans problem? (Moved)

Wanted to see if this is normal with the transmissions in our cars. When I first start up my car in the morning, I shift it into reverse and it takes about 1-1.5 seconds for it to thud into gear. It feels like the t-converter takes that much time to engage. It does it more when it is cold. I brought it to the dealer once and they said they couldn't duplicate it. Could it be an adjustment or does everyone else's car do the same?

trans issues

This is not normal, and usually indicates excessive wear, low fluid pressure, clogged filter, etc.

The trans is just like an engine, makes it's highest fluid pressure when cold if nominal. The only thing it should do is hold gears and delay lockup a bit when it's really cold (22 and dropping here!).

The slow engagement thing is a great gauge of how worn a trans is usually.

I was told by the dealership that this is normal because it's a drive by wire system. Nothing about wear or low fluids. Maybe I should get that checked too.

These cars seem to be pretty sensitive to trans. fluid levels, and with our leaky o-rings and difficulty in diagnosing proper fluid level due to it being temperature dependant. The only way you will ever know it's just right is to do a full flush and fill, and that's like $150 at the dealer. Good luck.

Mine does that too, but only when parking on a slight hill or incline. It makes a loud thud sounds going from Park to Reverse. Took it to dealership & they could not duplicate issue, but they told me it is common for our cars & it is no big concern.
