Dealer Warranty work

Hope someone can answer this question for me. I had some service done on my SRT-8 a couple months ago while under the factory warranty repairing the tie rods and steering shaft. This was done to get rid of this clicking sound coming from my front end when i would turn the steering wheel while in reverse.

After the work was done the sound was gone and my alignment was fine since they did a alignment. But now the sound is back and getting progressively worse, so my question is since my car is now outside of the factory warranty and the work was done and documented while under the warranty, and i going to get the shaft and have to fork cash over if i take it back in to have them re fix the issue since this was under warranty orginally?

Thanks in advance

Chemmy.
Usually there are two culprits when it comes to front end noises on LX's. Tie rod ends, and sway bar bushings. You can get replacements from Moog, or federal mogul. Go to any performance automotive shop, and they will help you out. Some automotive know-how is required to swap these out- The tie rod threads can me marked so you know how far to screw in the replacements. Your alignment will need to be checked to see how close you are. The sway bar bushings are very easy to change. Try these first before changing tie rods, as they are notorious for creating harsh noises.

If you don't think you're up to the task, some people aren't. You can order these replacements above, and have a mechanic that you trust OUTSIDE a dealership. Ask your friends for a good mechanic, as word of mouth is usually the best form of advertising.

Hrmmm....very interesting.....my newly acquired 06 is making all sorts of racket in the front end when making a reversing turn (like out of a parking space).

Whether the work was done under warranty or not, the dealer should warranty their work. 12 months or 12000 miles, whichever comes first, is typical. I would call the service manager and ask how long they warranty their work.

As for front end noise, the tension struts are also a major culprit; the bushings tear prematurely. The good news is that the tension struts have been revised. The bad news is that they are on back order due to heavy demand!

Not a problem. Put the wheel hard over, then shut down and get out and look at it.

The reason it makes noise when backing up with the wheels turned over hard is that extreme camber change. Trust me, it's GREAT when you're moving forward!
