Winter wheels arrived today from Tire Rack

The UPS guy dropped off my new wheels today. I bought a set of 18" Borbet Type TS with the Bridgestone Blizzak Q-rated DM-Z3 snow and ice tires. The Borbet was the only 18" wheel sold by Tire Rack that will clear the massive StopTech 6-piston brakes I will be installing in a couple weeks. I also like that the design of the wheel bears a slight resemblance to the factory wheels.

Here's a side-by-side of the winter vs summer wheels:

Borbet Type TS 18" x 8.5" (Left) and Factory SRT8 20" x 9" (Right)

Here's a close-up of the Blizzak tread pattern. I don't expect the SRT8 will handle very well in the dry after I put these on. But at least I'll be able to make it up the hill to my house if I'm caught out in the next snow storm! I have no politicians living on my street, so the road to my house is sanded and plowed last.

DZeckhausen,

Looks like a great setup that many of us up in the snowbelt will have to do (assuming we don't just garage it). Can I ask what you ended up paying for the set of four?

Thanks,

NightBandit

the tread pattern on the blizzacks looks nice and aggressive! Look like they'll get you home safely ! I would like to see a pic of them mounted when you get a chance.

Winter Tires

Very nice post, like your taste and I plan on doing the same thing you did.
The only area cars touch the pavement are about 10 square inches at each corner. There's no excuse for bad rubber in snow and ice conditions.

thanks again for the photos and information.

I noticed on http://www.borbet.de/index-lgb.php3 they make a borbet "TS" in a 19" wheel.(My winter driving is light with mostly plowed roads and short trips) Would those clear the big big big brembos and the stock ones ?

Tirerack sells Borbet Ts 18" but not the 19" , I am emailing borbet to find out who does in the USA --

All the best ~

I am staying with the stock contis on the 18" OEM rims for this winter. SO far through three small storms they have been OK.

I may change if I get a good review. I had Blizzaks on my '96 turbo Eclipse (FWD) they wer great, but alas they did suck on dry pavement

Those look pretty good. I had Blizzak's on an old Jetta and they worked wonders and I was going to do the same thing on the 300. Have trouble getting up my driveway.

My question is what is the $180 for the TPMS senser stuff? I would consider ordering these. And with the pitting on the original rims, it's probably a good idea to run different rims in the winter.
