extra lucky

having spent time on the side of the road TWICE due to tire punctures, here's what I recommend.

Travel with a couple cans of fix-a-flat in the trunk. Also bring the DIY plugging kit previously mentioned. This will fix 98% of your roadside problems.

Note: if you drive your SRT8 like I do you will NOT repair the tire after puncture. Throw it away and buy a new one. Too dangerous at speed.

It's a real pain in the arse not having a spare!

I know that with other tire sealants, after using them the whole tire nees to be changed because the tire sealant hardenss inside.
when i got a flat the hole was too big and the tire sealant wasnt worth crap. I had to call for a flatbed and DCX roadside did not cover it. I had to pay with a credit card on the phone before they sent over the flatbed.....
also DO NOT TAKE TO THE DEALER...they will not plug holes in tires...... I ended up paying for a new tire.......

When i went to buy the tire selant again they wanted $65.00 I just went to pepboys and got fix a flat for $4.99. i also picked up a tire plug kit so i can fix on the spot. I rather buy new tire than fix it....this is a high performance car and I dont want to risk my life with a patched tire.

Oh and i now got AAA advantage and they will tow me up to 100 miles for free!!!

Are you kidding?? Is there an aftermarket one that will fit on there? It's a convenient combo tire pump / emergency patcher and I'd like to use it in "stock" configuration -- unless refills cost $65 that is!

Take tire off the rim and have it patched from the inside. If done well it is good for normal driving.

If you're going 120 around a curve you may rather have a new tire.

I believe that most reputable tire shops will not patch a Y or W speed rated tire depending on wear the puncture is. I've had at least 8 nail/screw punctures in the last 4 years. Unfortunately, I've become a pro at plugging these. My most recent one was a sheet metal screw that went in head first. That was a bitch to remove even with vice grips. I use a drill bit to ream out the hole rather than an awl.

Talking Plug Patch

The newer version is a plug and a patch. It is a plug in the hole and a patch inside the tire. It's two toys in one! I've had at least 4 of these repairs (in different tires) so far in the 6 months I've owned my SRT-8. I drive at warp speed on a regular basis. I have zero concern about a tire that was properly fixed. Of course, this only applies to repairs in the tread, not on the shoulder or sidewall. Tirerack recently had our 245/45/20 F1's on sale for $215 each.

I also have the Road Hazard warranty (60,000 mile) for my tires and rims. If I get a flat that is not fixable or damage a rim: Free replacement! $500 well spent.

I drive a lot (22,000 miles in 6 1/2 months) all over AZ, CA, NV with No Spare. AAA Gold with 100 miles towing if I need it. Who needs a spare?
