Has anyone else out there ever had a car that belches so much break dust that you have to wash it from the back of the car weekly? I sure haven't and no one I know has either.

It's great the they DCX placed track brake pads on the SRT-8, but... putting them on a daily driver with Chrome wheels that requires daily cleaning makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. Is it a track car or a daily driver? Perhaps they did this to up their specifications on stopping distances for reviews or safety ratings.... Something we will never know.

Also, stating that the current brake pads are from external suppliers and quality can vary is still not acceptable. Where is Chrysler or their suppliers quality control methods. Quality control in design, manufacturing, before and durring production should be a #1 priority.

Thx,
Vidkidd

Vidkidd, some very good points you make. especially the one about Chrysler or their suppliers quality control.

The other car in my garage is an Audi TT and I can assure you that it suffers exactly the same amount of brake dust as the SRT8.

Ah yes, the good old Aussie built GTO. Seems Holden has a fairly good Rotor / Pad mix. Did you know that the Corvette has Aussie made brakes too (or at least the C5 did)?

That's only until a "real" track pad becomes available for the front pad shape.

Dave, where can I order one of the special sockets PRONTO!

Thanks!
Lots of places sell sets, but they are ~$40 and up. I found a place that will sell an individual 21mm nylon insert socket for $14.

Look at the bottom right of the page # 73146 seems to be the item we need.
I've used a regular 21mm, with no damage (no slop between socket & lug), but the specialty one is better IMO.
BTW: I NEVER tighten lug nuts with an impact wrench.

Some recent cars with high performance brakes that I've owned include an '01 ZO6 and an '04 Viper. They create so much brake dust that cleaning the intricate wheels is a job in itself. But I've never had to deal with rotor scoring or brake squeel.

I just picked up an SRT8 for the wife 2 days ago. I'm wondering if I shouldn't go the aftermarket pad route before my stock rotors start wetting the bed.

Well my pads & spreader just came in!!! Dave you know how to pack stuff. Must cost a fortune in tape. I won't get a chance to put them on till Firday though. I have to go look for a 21mm socket as well.

Get this - The friggin' pads were made in Canada! They have more miles on them than my car, coming from California, to Dave and then to me...haha. Also the Post Office ripped me off for $73.51 for whatever reason.

The pad spreader is quite impressive looking too. I'm just looking for something to spread. Maybe I'll examine Emma's teeth. I wonder what else it can be used for. Anyway I'm happy and look forward to having no dust.

They made you pay duty on pads that originated in Canada? Or was all of that for the USA-manufactured spreader tool? Yikes!

No wonder so many people from Canada ask me to fudge the value of the items on the Customs form. (Which is something I will not do!)

No idea what the duty was for Dave, but it's probably for the total value. I don't blame you for not fudging the value either. That's the way I operate my business and it makes sleeping at night a whole lot easier knowing that if you get audited you've got nothing to worry about. To me I'm just happy I got the stuff so quick, and thanks again.

Hey Rambit. I am glad you fianlly got your parts in. Sorry to hear about the extra $ you had to fork out. Dave does a great job of packing up your goodies. Very impressed.

That tool is cool isn't it? Very well made, glad to have it in my tool box now.

I will not be able to do the pad swap until later this week hopefully. Since I know I am going to want to clean the insides of the wheel wells, the wheels and then do the pad swap. It will take me more time than just the pad swap alone.

I will post my install and my first impressions soon.

Haha Mark. That's my plan as well for Friday. Just like Dave said, it'll take more time for the wheels to dry than changing the pads.
