The original order of 80 sets of pads was indeed cut in half by the manufacturer. So the 40 sets that arrived are all that will be here for at least another month. By now, almost everyone in the first 40 slots on that waiting list should have received their pads.
The next batch is 150 sets, so that should be enough to cover everyone on the waiting list and eliminate the shortages for a while.
There are three people on the waiting list who have not responded to phone messages and have not paid their on-line (emailed) invoices. If I don't hear from them by the end of the weekend, their pads will go to #41, 42, and 43 on the waiting list. Those people are:
Joshua S. in Los Angeles, CA (#3)
Todd J. in Keller, TX (#5)
Brian S. in Newnan, GA (#28)
If you have not seen an electronic invoice (spam filters could have killed them) or received your voice mails (teenagers are notorius for deleting messages and not telling anyone), then call me ASAP and I'll arrange to get your pads out to you. My number is (973)761-5054. If you get my voicemail, leave a detailed message. But If I don't hear from you by Sunday, the pads go to the next folks on the list. It's only fair.
one question, I went to a brake shop to see how much it would cost and when they saw my rotors (the ones that SRT says is normal wear) they said damn do you ride your brakes??? i said no this is normal....
but back to my question, they said I need to turn my rotors when i install the new pads, because they say they will eat the new pads and will also have vibrations, Did you guys that have changed to the new ctek pads have to turn the rotors or do i just install the pads and go???
I have 8900 miles on my car now.

Do you have a vibration problem now? If not, then changing pads without turning the rotors will NOT result in a vibration problem. Just put the new pads on and do a few gentle to medium stops to get them seated properly. Then bed them in per: http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm and after about a week or so of driving, bed them in a second time.
It will take far less time (and money) to simply install these pads without also having to remove the calipers, remove the rotors, turn the rotors, then reinstall rotors, calipers, and pads.

I didn't turn mine. It's funny how many people, including me noticed the rotors were actually smoothing themselves out even with the OEM pads around 6000 miles. Mine feel perfectly smooth now, and the brakes... love 'em!

Here's another update. On approximately July 31, I will have another 36 sets of C-Tek brake pads for the SRT8. That means that another group of folks on the waiting list will be contacted that day and will get their pads very soon. A couple weeks behind that small batch is (I am told) a really huge batch that should take care of everyone on the list and finally end the shortages. If we're lucky, anyone who wants them will be able to have these low dust pads on their SRT8 by late August.
Nobody needs to contact me about the status of these pads unless they want to be added to the waiting list. If you are already on it, I will be contacting you the same day the pads are ready to ship. You don't need to do anything until you hear from me.
I hope the first 40 of you who got on the list have already installed your pads and are now enjoying your clean wheels!

That's awesome, Dave. You're really going out of your way to help support the CWC.

I bought my SRT8 the day before Thanksgiving and I had to drive around with the stock pads for about 6 months. So I feel everyone's pain! I would actually have to carefully plan my trips in the SRT8 so I didn't show up somewhere with dirty wheels. My cars are always spotless, so I couldn't stand having my wheels look like I hadn't washed the car in two months - just from a single trip to lunch and back! Now that I have these C-Tek pads on the SRT8, the BMW is sitting untouched in the garage. I no longer hesitate to jump in the car to run a short errand, for fear of having to plan my next wheel washing session.
Sorry - I'm sure this description is just rubbing salt in the wound of everyone on the pad waiting list!

I can TOTALLY relate. And there are those who say suck it up!! They're performance brakes!! They're going to kick out a lot of dust!! I don't care about the dust as long as I can stop on a dime in my 4k lb. fridge!!
Well, I totally disagree with that camp. I spend hours to keep my car 'show' ready. I've spent weekends detailing it only to then be discouraged to drive it because of the horrible dust. I've actually applied 3 - 4 coats of Zaino over a course of a weekend and not driven the car for days afterwards so I could slip out to the garage and sit there and stare at it in it's shining glory. Only to make one 42 mile round trip to work and have coated wheels when I get home. The suit makes the man. The wheels make the car. The dust sort of reminds me of a punk song I heard on the radio one day, "Nice legs, shame about 'yer face." "Nice car. Shame about the wheels." Oh well....soon...very soon.
It's interesting, as the Vipers had that "problem" pretty much from 1992 through 2002 because they are indeed performance pads from the factory. Loud squealing and TONS of brake dust. Most of the folks I know switched to a Kevlar-type pad in order to get rid of both for everyday street driving.
I take delivery of my SRT-8 on Friday and already ordered the rear pads from Dave (fronts are backordered, of course). And the service? WOW!! I deal with a LOT of vendors and Dave has already proven to be among the very best. He invoiced me within seconds of me confirming my order and then sent the same day (I did my best to pay him within seconds too). If these pads are half as good as the man behind them, I am in great shape!
Oh and Dan, if your car isn't in hand soon I would be happy to buy those front pads off you. Just send them to Houston by overnight mail and I won't arrive home with dirty wheels and a wife rolling her eyes when she sees them...
