No comments on the chat session, re "no new pads" coming?

The SRT engineers said today "no new pads", only that slotted rotors would be replacing current rotors starting with the 2007 models...

I guess I made the right choice then by going with Dave then RS. When the slotted rotors come out I'm getting them.

I think you made the right choice. I was shocked to hear about the pads, especially after they had repeatedly stated in the past that they were "working on a solution" and that it would be implemented in June. They really didn't elaborate on the situation at all.

Hello Rambit ,
I was dissapointed they did not answer your 180 degree thermostat question. I just received my GSM Fan/torque mod yesterday but have yet to install.I was wondering if there was any reason this could cause a problem as well.

I actually forgot I asked that. I totally forgot to ask again, especially in view of the fact it wasn't overly busy tonight.

Did you see my post in Dave's thread that the pads are made in Canada? They probably sell them in Canadian Tire...haha. Yes, and I too thought they were supposed to be coming out with a new pad in June. Someone on lxforums was bragging he had insider information on that. Looks like it was just that, BS and rumour mongering.

EDIT: They never did answer your question about the spare tire situation.

I couldn't agree more. I am highly dissapointed. I have to now battle a dealer for new rotors. Every dealer will say that rotors are part of the first year 12month/12k mile warranty and that I am not eligible. I am not going to let this go. We need to put pressure on DCX. United front is what we need to be. I love how they lead us to believe a fix was coming and then they come out and say it is a new change for 2007..........

What is the purpose of slotted rotors? I thought they prevented overheating and thus fade, but we don't have a fade problem.

On the other hand I wonder if slotted rotors would eat pads even faster, with the corners at the trailing edge of the slots cutting the pad a little bit all the time.

How is this a solution for brake dust or rotor grooving?

I specifically addressed the rotor warranty period. At first they said to "ask your dealer" (if the warranty would apply). I told them no go, that I had been through the warped rotor/dealer crap with the Grand Cherokee years ago and that owners were getting screwed. On the Grand Cherokee it was the pads (12-mo. warranty) that were causing the rotors (36-mo. warranty) to warp. Dealers were telling customers "12-mo. warranty". They finally issued a warranty bulletin that stated the warranty would be 36-mo. since the pads caused the problem. Still, even with that letter in hand, many dealers were refusing to honor the warranty beyond 12-mo..

In answer to my question on the LX rotors the engineers stated "3-year/36 mo." warranty for the rotors. Yeah, we'll see how that goes.

DCX is famous for giving the "ask your dealer" answer for about 90% of the questions asked. It's just too bad that some of these employees have never been on the other side of the fence so that they would realize the kind of response we get from dealers in situations like this.

Of course I appreciate the opportunity of having the engineering sessions, but so many questions are ignored, and in todays session which was slow I am not sure why that was the case.

Another question I asked was about the Mopar iPod adaptor. Here they come out with one for 2004 and older vehicles, but fail to address the 2005-up systems with the new CAN-Bus. Yet their press release on the iPod adaptor bragged about how this was going to be available for all of their vehicles etc. So what response do I get? The "we don't comment on future products..."!!! This is a current product, it wasn't about the new Challenger! I was surprised they mentioned the rotors going into the 2007 models, after all even though they are weeks away from production 2007 models are still a "future product".

I am battling this very issue of the brakes and rotor replacement right now with my dealer! Since my SRT8 has 13,100 miles on it, the dealer says I need to pay the labor for resurfacing the rotors and replacing the pads (past the warranty period). The dealer said he was giving me a "good deal" for not having me pay for the replacement pads because of the TSB for the pads.

Is there any documented proof in the Chrysler system that shows the rotor warranty is for 3 yrs/36K miles?

Thanks for your help.... you might just save me some $$$
