I went and got towing coverage from my insurance company after reading the fine print and determining that it will cover the flatbed (muahahaha), since the SRT owner's manual calls for it (not to mention that no driver in his right mind would even attempt to pull one conventionally...) And I have a cousin who wholesales tires, so while I'd be stranded, it would be for around 24 hours...except on Sunday.

Hey all I have problem with not have a spare, or some way of enablely my srt-8 if i get a flat or blowout. I had a incident this july 4th weekend, going to Chicago. No way to continue on trip, because tire got cut on side, due to debris in road way on I -80. I was just struck, not a good feeling, Roadside got me to a dealership, but from there, no way to get this tire. Had to leave my car and Chrysler wouldn't honor, the Warranty or extended warranty. I feel Chrysler should have some kind of CUSTOMER PROTECTION IN THIS WITH THE SRT-8 300C TO ACCOMATED THE OWNER. THIS HIGH END CAR YOU SHOULDN'T BE LEFT OUT THERE TO DRY. FEEDBACK PLEASE

Dealer mechanic and some other knowledgable folks have all told me that there is no problem with the open differential. The stock spare for the 300C is smaller than the 300C tires by about 1 1/2". Just don't drive a long time with it on.

What about putting a tire without rim in your trunk on long trips. If you get a flat at least you could have a tire dude mount the tire on you're rim. A lot better than be out for the entire weekend.

That's an option, but if you're gonna take up space with a tire, you might as well mount it on a rim, as it won't really take up that much more room. Then you don't have to wait for someone to swap tires for you, which could be a problem if you're in the middle of nowhere.
I've carried a spare on an OEM SRT8 rim, with an OEM jack in the trunk for almost a year now. Sure, it cuts way down on trunk space, but if you put the tire in with the outside facing down, you can fit lots of stuff in the rim. The jack & crank/wrench fit in the compartment under the trunk with no problem. Of course it's just me and the wife going on trips now, but we've really never had a problem fitting just about everything (including folding beach chairs) in the trunk. If I have to (I'd rather not), I can put stuff in the back seat.
As another member suggested, I also keep a Victor rope type tire repair kit & a pair of dikes (no, I mean a pair of diagonal cutting pliers for pulling out a nail, etc.) in the trunk for on car simple punctures, since we all have a compressor.
Not perfect, but better than no spare IMO.
-Steve

The spare tire on these units are designed to be "full size" in height (they are about 3/4" shorter in total than the stock size. True, they are thinner, but as long as the height is that similar, the rear diff should be ok. In the same way that ALL pick-up trucks have full size spares, this RWD vehicle has one to prevent that diff from overheating. None-the-less, I would recommend limited use on the rear end. I may be wrong here, but I cant think of a RWD vehicle that doesn,t either have a full size spare, or a run flat on the rear.

Well that IS pretty stupid. For some reason I was thinking they were run-flat. Bigger cars like the crown vic have a true full-size spare. Don't the viper and vette have run-flats? I guess if you are running one of those big boys you are more concerned about weight and true performance, as opposed to daily driving.

Before getting my SRT8 I had an '03 Saleen. The spare tire was a standard doughnut spacesaver rim and tire combo. To clear the brake calipers Saleen supplied a wheel spacer to space the spare away from the caliper. To put on the spare you had to bolt on the wheelspacer and then bolt on the spare. Is anyone able to verify, or know, if using both a wheelspacer and spacesaver rim would work on the SRT8's? If they do work we could use a spacesaver rim and wheelspacer and not lose trunk space. Just a thought.
