hey guys....just wanted to get some info from some people on when they started to notice grooving in their rotors....also, when did you start to hear squeaking from the breaks....speaking in terms of miles...thanks..
For me I noticed the scoring in the first 1500 miles, but that's because someone else posted about it so I looked. It's entirely possible it started as early as 500 miles because others have claimed that.
As far as the squealing I didn't notice until around 6000 miles.

Dave recently posted that you want to remove the layer of oil that comes from the factory with either brake clean spray or soapy water before you do this.
Just thought I'd pass that along.
and congrats!
Thanks for the heads up vvv90.

i dont see any grooving in my rotors yet, because there are only 400 miles on her....can i call the dealer and ask him about the TSB....how do i go about getting them put on?
Background:
I have <7000 miles on the car & it just turned one year old on 8/6. I had the C-Tek pads on the car (front and rear) for about 1000 miles, and all the previous grooving was gone. In fact, the rotors looked beautiful! After the TSB came out, I put the OEM pads back on and made an appointment with the dealer to check the rotors (~3 days before it was a year). I wanted to document the rotor wear before the year was out. In the 10 days since the OEMs went back on, some minor grooving has returned, but nothing outrageous. Our schedules meshed today. BTW: This is the first time the car has been at the dealer since I bought it, so it's not like they're my buddies.
When I got to the service department, I explained to the service advisor that the grooving has been very bad, then cleans itself up, and then returns. I told him that I was concerned that this was wearing the rotor beyond it's limits, and while they don't look bad, I'm sure they have abnormal wear. He was not aware of the TSB, so I gave him my copy. He did not get his jaw out of line with this, and seemed pleased for the info.
This is what the tech reported:
"Verified customer concern, found all rotors scored badly"
front rotor(s) thickness: 28.7mm & 29.0mm min limit is 31.9mm
rear rotor(s) thickness: 25.1mm & 25.5mm min limit is 27.9mm
These measurements were in the grooves (what few there were).
So, he ordered the 4 new rotors for me and they should be in next week. Needless to say, I'm happy with the decision. The OEM pads will not be replaced as part of the TSB, which is OK with me. My intention is to immediately re-install my C-Teks.
Side note: Before the car was pulled into the shop I went outside to see where they parked it, since parking is terrible there. One of the guys saw me and said that they always tuck the SRTs in the back lot, away from the other cars... and there it was. Made me feel good.
The purpose of this rant is to advise anyone who may think that their grooving is not bad enough to qualify for new rotors (RAMBIT, are you listening), to reconsider and give it a shot.
Judging by the pix people have posted of their new rotors, I'm not so sure they will end the grooving when used with the OEM pads. Time will tell.
HTHs!
-Steve

Mine started grooving around 1500 miles, then by 6k they had smoothed themselves out. I’m still qualifying for the new rotors. Mine never did squeal like stuck pig. So you never know until you ask.

Wow! Are you kidding me!
Well, that goes to show how serious the scoring problem REALLY is. I thought is was more cosmetic right now (circa ~10k miles on average per person reporting the problem.)

I would have to agree with this case; in my situation. I just have a little over 1000 miles on my SRT8 and you can definitely see the grooves... I actually started noticing it at around 700 or so -- but the scoring is a little more evident now... Hopefully the replacement rotors make it to my dealer next week. I am definitely thankful to all the forum members in keeping us aware of these TSBs. A big thanks to all.
