New Tires Part 2

I took my car in today to have the new tires put on. Knowing how nice these wheels are my dealership only had one dude that they would trust to perform the deed. It seems as he was about to change the tires a family emergency came up and he was forced to leave work. So the dealership was extremely apologetic about this problem. While I’m standing there talking to the GM he starts to look over my front tires. The out side edges are worn down to nothing. He then asks me to turn my wheel so he could see the inside edges. When I did he and another mechanic both went nuts. On both fronts the inside tread was separating from the side wall….quite badly! Like I was lucky to even have made it to my destination. I hadn’t looked at the inside edge closely as it appeared to have tread. Both indicated a catastrophic tire failure was imminent. So my dealer said you’re not taking this car off these premises and I’ll give you a loaner to use until we can get these tires fixed. Not only that they’re getting a hold of the Goodyear representative in the area to have them look at what these tires were doing to evaluate why they were doing what they did. I’m still suspicious of an alignment issue, but my car never pulled to one side.
So folk’s good dealers do exist. Some do care about their customers well being and are more than willing to help them out. I was sent home with a 2007 Steel Blue Base that only had 450 miles on her. She has 4 good tires, a radio and got me home safely. I’m extremely grateful to my dealership for looking out for me and helping me out. As I said he has a customer for life!

If you haven’t taken a good look at the inside wear of your tires you may want to go have a look and a feel. I hope you don’t encounter messed up tires like I have.

Congrats Danno. You better rush out and buy yourself a lotto ticket w/ the luck you've got going there's no doubt you'll win! (and I get 15% of your winnings before taxes) hehe

Seriously though, its stories like this that give me hope! Make sure and tell them how famous they are now! Great story!

You mean "good dealers 'exist" The bad ones exit, lol.

danno, good post. You might have saved someones life. Some of us go 140+ all the time. Something like that needs to be looked at all the time...and you just reminded us to do just that.

That one little “s” makes such a big difference! I guess I was a little tired last night.
I hope people do check that out as I had no idea until I actually felt back there….very scary stuff!

That is a very scary thought if those tires fell apart..man how lucky you are! I am glad you are still around to tell the story, I can't imagine this place without you...stay safe, and everyone lets take a little time today to give your tires a once over...it only takes a couple of minutes but what a valuable couple minutes they are. who knows maybe someone else will go outsde today and see the same issue..I am checking mine today even though they are new, thanks Danno!

Danno,
Keep us posted, I'm watching this one closely - as are the rest of us. Glad to hear it didn't get to the blowout point...this is you flying down the road until it blows out

Glad you are OK and you have a good dealer to. Mine is the same way I was going to get my wheels changed under warranty last year. He told me to hold on until I was ready for new tires. And they would do it all at the same time that way no charge for mounting or balancing. It took two years for the other wheels to pit ,and I had them put the weight's on the inside.
