Questions about brake pads

How much would you pay to have new brake pads installed on your 300 SRT8? The reason I ask is I got a quote from one of our vendors here on the board of $250.00 to install all four sides and I thought that was way high, what do you think?

Plus install time and tax, not too bad IMO. If you have a jack, I'd consider doing it yourself, if you can change a tire, and take a couple of bolts off that's about it to changing the pads. Easier than many cars that I've had.

I agree if it was for the pads and install it would be a good deal but the $250.00 is for install only. The new pads are going to cost me another $250.00 for a total of $500.00, that is crazy right?

If this is just to install the brakes they need to be shot. Took me 30 minutes to change all four. Not to mention I was using a floor jack and a rachet. A shop should be able to change all four in 15 minutes with a lift and a impact wrench.

Now if that includes the price of the pads I still believe its high but its not crazy. I bought the centric posi-quiet pads for $173 from a support vendor (Zeckhausen Racing) and they are way better than stock (1/10 of the dust and the same braking power).

Then again I can't believe any vendor would charge this, are you sure they don't plan to turn your rotors or something more? If they aren't doing anything extra I would order a set of quality pads from DZeckhausen for about 100 bucks or so, and install them myself. Shouldn't take more than about an hour for all four wheels. Just a jack, lugnut wrench and a one other wrench though I don't know the size. Really easy, definately not $250 in labor.

LOL, I can tell you it was not DZeckhausen, I am going to call the vendor tomorrow and talk to the owner about the price I was quoted. What would be a fair price to do this job? I would do it myself but I am not sure I could do it right. Thanks for all of your help. Oh the price was only for the replacement of the brake pads, no turning of rotors or any thing else was discussed.

The only socket you will need is a 21mm for the lugs. To change the pads you need a big flathead screw driver to push in the pistons. Then you will need a punch and a hammer to knock the pins out that hold the pads in the caliper.

The price was only for the changing of the pads . If I had a gun... . I would rather fly to cali and change them for you for free instead of you pay $250 in labor. That vendor should be banned...
