Just got a set of Avons on the front..... and hoping they have 255's when i need them on the back.....

Excellent on the drive from houston to dallas in the rain, and not bad at all in the dust storm in Ft. Worth.

ST's are for SUV's and 4's are not for SUV's. ST's weigh alot, too.

I searched and read some of the posts here and found the following
BTW the size iam going to be installing is 255/45/20 all around.

The options that i found are:
1-Toyo proxes many here have them: to me they look more SUVish than a sedan tire so I am staying away.
2-Yokohama Parada spec-X again great price but still has the SUV/Truck look.
3- Nittos I used them in the past on my mustang so I will try something else.
4- Avon techs great price but dont come in the 255s
5- the factory Goodyear F1s I love them but willing to try something else.

So I searched more and found this tire
Falken FK 452 they do come in 255/45/20 price range on the web is anywhere from $160-$200 similar specs to the F1s slightly better tread wear 300 instead of 220 for the F1s.
Best of all it looks amazing.

They will be on the car in 7 days once on I will post a review.
After looking at the Falken and the Proxes I don't see any difference in tread style. So if you think one is SUVish, don't you see the same on the other? I like both.

You guys try the F1 GSD3's? Great in the rain, good in the dry, look good and wear better than the F1 Supercars. And they can be found for a good price (relatively speaking). There are so many tire choices out there but I just went with these to try as Goodyear gave me a $305 per tire credit. Cost me $100 for new tires, roadforce and road hazard out the door. Even if I don't love them (have 10 miles on them so far) I consider them to be a bargain. You guys are going to Goodtear for credit when the SC's wear out before 20,000 miles, right?

Edit: Looks like I am a tad late. but....

I would stay away from falkens' A few friends of mine had them on verious hi horsepower rear wheel drive cars. They are horrible in the rain with a horsepower car. You'll be saying to your self, I can't believe I bought these dang gone "falken" tires.

I recommend BFG G-force KDW. Personally I put 15k miles on them, my mustangs new owner has about 10 and they Took a beating, multiple burnouts and doughnuts and they keep on sticking, great in the rain, extra great in the dry. The new KDW-2 I think they are called have that "trendy" tread pattern are supposed to be the same, but I like the originals.

None are Run-Flat though.

BFG G-Force KDW

BFG G-Force KDW-2

The other is the Hankook-Ventus. I have heard no negitive comments on Handkook tires.

Please tell us more about that.

Is this because you’re driving them in the winter weather? Just curious why you might not be liking them anymore.
Danno,
It's not their inability in the winter, not even that they are hard in cold temperatures. I know what these tires are about and what they are designed to do. They just seem to be such noisy and harsh tires, seems that unless you are at the track and warming them up and pushing them to the limit...they are a little out of place. Not very approariate tires for a daily driver in my opinion. I'm at 6700 miles and finally gave them a good lookin' over this weekend when I was cleaning the C. Mine are wearing irregularly on the front, the outer ribbing of tread is really eaten up compared to the rest of the tire. I know it's probably the caster pressure(I realize I just invented a term there) the suspension puts on the outside of the fronts, but even the individual tread "blocks" aren't worn uniformly. I did stop by my local dealership yesterday to tell them about it, and the fact that I'm developing the 70-80 mph wobble so many others are familiar with. We'll see what they say - I have an appointment Monday. I'm hoping for a re-balance from them and maybe I can even whine enough for a new tire discount or some assistance there. I'll try to take pics of what I'm talking about today - been so busy lately though.

Sure you can:

Quote:
Treadwear ratings are determined on a 400 mile government test course covering specified sections of public roads near San Angelo, Texas. A group of not more than four test vehicles travels the course in a convoy so that all tires experience the same conditions. Tread groove depths of the tires being tested are measured after each 800 miles. The same procedure is followed for a set of control or "course monitoring tires".Upon completion of the 7200 mile test, the rating results of both tests are compared, and the tires being tested are assigned a treadwear rating by the tire manufacturer.
Manufacturers may vary a little, but not enough to make up for the difference in rating between Goodyear and Falken.

And here's a quote directly from the NHTSA's website:

Quote:
The Uniform Tire Quality Grading Standards (UTQGS), Part 575.104 of the Consumer Information Regulations, set forth the grading conditions and procedures and labeling requirements that indicate the relative performances of passenger car tires concerning treadwear, traction, and temperature resistance. The information must be permanently molded into the tire sidewalls, indelibly stamped on a label or labels affixed to the tire tread surface, and made available in consumer brochures. The UTQGS apply to all passenger car tires except deep tread, winter type snow tires, space-saver or temporary-use spare tires, and limited production tires. The definitions and grades for the UTQGS characteristics follow.

Treadwear is the wear rate of a tire when tested under controlled conditions. The codes set forth in the UTQGS are two- or three- digit numbers representing a percentage of a standard value when a tire is tested in accordance with specified procedures. The higher the number, the better the treadwear.
JMatt,
I know they shoot for relatively the same numbers but - for example if you compared a Michelin 400 treadwear rating to a Goodyear 400 I think you would find one that lasted a whole lot longer than the other. I have no doubt that you have much more experience with tires than I do, I'm actually quoting someone else who told me that you can't really compare treadwear ratings across tire manufacturers.

Eric

Exclamation Tires

I have a little experience with tires

Toyo Proxes 4's. They ROCK!

After 5 sets of F1's in 15 months, I tried the Toyo's. I will never go back. I am running 255/45/20's all the way around. They look great (not SUVish). They handle great. They come in all the right sizes for SRT-8's (245/45,, 255/45 & 275/40) and they are readily available at a great price ($165 - $185 each). They are almost as sticky on dry pavement, and a helluva lot better on wet. And, they are quiet.

Toyo Proxes 4's for me!!!
