Has This Ever Happened to Anybody?

Well I'm approaching 22K miles on my SRT-8 and I am looking into new tire options. So this weekend I'm checking out the tread wear on the rear tires b/c they are almost bald and WTF. I have a 245/45 on the right rear!
My left rear tire is the factory 255/45! Both fronts are recommended 245/45!

I'm trying to figure out how could I go so long with the wrong size tire on the right rear. The tires are almost bald so I don't think there is any recourse on getting a replacement.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

Aside from seeing 300C SRT-8's come off the line with no rear lip spoiler, this is rather unique.

Something still doesn't make sense to me.

Are you saying that the left is an Eagle F1 and the right is an RSA???

No both are Eagle F1's just the rear left is a 245 and it should be a 255! I wonder if it would affect my performance?

Oh geeze. See link/thread on why Chrysler is in trouble. LOL. Definitely some quality control troubles in Canada. Hopefully no harm/no foul.

This is really hard to believe....Not that I think you're lying or anything, but Eagle F1 245's are not a factory option for SRT-8's. That being the case, and the 20" wheels only get mounted at one place, Bramton, how did it get there in the first place if they only stock 255 F1's or 245 RSA's????

Me thinks you had your car in for service somewhere and they ruined the tire. They probably replaced it with the wrong size on accident.

It also wouldn't effect much of anything else for that matter either. Since your going to be replacing them soon, I'd just mount up the same size on all four corners to avoid this problem in the future and allow you to rotate the tires too.

Ah....That's right....I thought they were 255's all the way around but now memory serves.

It looks like the factory screwed up afterall.

Interesting. Your rears were rotating at slightly different speeds because they would have been different diameters. Can you think of any other time it may have been switched - like at the dealer for service? Has the rear differential issued any complaint noises? These differentials are open and not limited slips...a very good thing in this case.

I guess this answers the question as to whether or not having a slightly different-sized tires on the rear would damage the differential - in carrying a spare that may not exactly match for someone running staggered tire sizes that is.

Eric

That is a strange mess up. Since those of us with the staggered set up couldn’t rotate our tires we probably didn’t give them much attention other than keeping them inflated and cleaned. I can’t speak for you daddyd but I know I hardly looked at my wheels since I couldn’t rotate them. I actually didn’t want to look as I knew they were wearing down fast since I couldn’t rotate them. What are you going to replace them with? I ended up using the F1's 255's all around on mine.....rotation here I come!

Well I more often looked at the driver side rear because ofcourse that's the side that I get in and out the car. And I thinking all the times I cleaned my wheels and dresses the tires not once did I see the 245 on the right rear.

The only other time I could think of maybe a change is when I got my factory wheels chromed.

Well I plan on going with the Toyo Proxies 4 275/40 20 in the next couple of weeks. I like the looks of the tire and hopefully it will improve the ride quality. Also like stated above, I'll be able to rotate! I guess somebody must have been slacking when they were mounting my tires!
