There's no harm, other than the possibility of a slightly softer pedal. It's just that they are redundant with the composite shims already affixed to the rear of the Centric Posi-Quiet pads.

On the other hand, if you ever install a different pad in the future that doesn't come with shims, you'll know where the originals are.

Bedding run #1 completed this morning at 5AM, will follow the procedure and do it again tomorrow. Brakes still feel a bit softer than before, wonder if I should try bleeding them if it doesn't firm up after bedding #2?

When using new pads on old rotors, it's a good idea to drive around a couple of weeks, then repeat the bedding process. By then, the new pads will have taken on the shape of the old rotors, making the bedding process more effective, since there is now 100% contact between pads and rotors. I suspect you'll find the pedal to be more firm after the 2nd week, even before the 2nd bedding session.

How old is the brake fluid in your car? If it's a year or more old, you might have boiled it during the 1st bedding session. I usually bleed the brakes on any car I'm changing pads for, if it has been more than a year since the last fluid change. See: Bleeding Brakes for some "competition" bleeding tips.

Thanks for the info Dave, this helps a lot! My car is about a year old so will follow the bleeding instructions to get some new fluid in there.
