SRT8 Tire Wear - Problems for You?

Man, I went to a local tire shop to have a slow leak fixed and my tires are crazy. I have just over 13,000 in a year and I guess the thing came from the factory out of alignment.

The left front tread at the outside shoulder is almost shaved. The right side is better but it is wearing weirdly from the middle of the tread out. Looks like I'm heading to the alignment shop. I'm going to try like hell to get at least 20,000 out of them but that may be a stretch now.

The rears are just as bad. They appear to be wearing from the middle out. This is obviously tire pressure that is a tad high. I have been following the mfg suggested pressure on the bottom of the driver's door sill, but I'm going to be dropping the rears to 32.

Have any of you experienced tire wear issues?

Question Tire Wear?

Tire Wear?

I haven't experienced any tire wear.

I don't need no stinkin' tire wear!

Dan almost could have owned stock in GY before the switch.

No unusual wear here. Do need to get balanced and rotated though.

I am seeing this too, especially on the fronts. I have been meaning to create a post with pictures and thoughts/opinions, just haven't had time. I don't these cars come with a bad alignment, even though others have stated it. My fronts are definitely wearing quickly on the outside, cupping too along the outer batch of what is left of the tread blocks. I am working on a warranty claim for my front tires, goign to get one for free if I buy the other it looks like - this at 6800 miles. The rears are normal. It's a 4000lb+ car on high performance tires, it will eat them. You definitely need 4 of the same size tires to be able to rotate on these beasts.

I did get my front tires rebalanced and it did solve the wobble that developed at 80mph. There is also no such thing as a Road Force balance either I'm told, that's just the name/brand of a machine that balances tires. Our cars do receive a static balance, meaning there is only a wheel weight on the inside of the rim and not on the outside. It's not considreed a true balance for that reason and probably why so many people report the wobble, because the tires work themselves out of balance after a little while. Sorry for the rambling,

Eric

There have been several discussions of this, along with the issue of the "80 mph shake". I experienced essentially the same thing. At 15,000 miles my rear F1's were almost slick. The fronts had good tread life left, but were pretty severely cupped on the outside. I was experiencing the vibration at 80 mph. I ordered two new rears and had them installed at a Goodyear, along with alignment and balance on the fronts. They said they were unable to adjust the camber to spec. The vibration was still there, but not as bad. I ordered two more F1 255's for the front to allow rotation, and took the car to Allen Samuels Dodge Katy Frwy ( I mention this because I see you are in Houston). They aligned the car and rebalanced all the tires. It is now like it was when new. They have a high speed spin balance machine and use the correct stick on weights. I have since rotated and rebalanced at 5K miles on the tires, still perfect. I am generally not a dealer kind of guy beyond warranty work, but I believe these cars because of their factory modified nature need the attention of people who have all the info regarding any special requirements. I also discovered that the 0w40 Mobil 1 oil change at the dealer was cheaper than what I had beed paying at the quick change place. Anyway, my experience for what it's worth. Good luck.

Yep I've also noticed the entire time owning this car that the front tires wear a lot faster than the rears. And I've just put wider tires on the rear when I bought new ones so I can't rotate. I always thought it was just from the engine being so heavy and taking turns at high speeds.
