Outer Front Tire Wear

Has anyone had problems with their front tires wearing out on the outer edge? The excess tire wear is roughly three inches the remaining tire tread is fine.

Sounds like you need an alignment.

If both outer edges are worn you need to put more air in your tires. If the wear is only on one side of the front tires you need to get the front end aligned. I run my tires with 32 to 35 lbs. I got 37000 miles on the Cont. and just purchased new Goodyear Comfort Treds.

Thanks guy's, what's weird is it's only occurring on the driver side. The car does not pull to either side when applying brakes or shake at high speeds. I'm taking the old girl to the dealer tomorrow to see what's going on, I'll let you know the outcome tomorrow.

Yeah, I thought that too and it did not work.

I have an SRT8 also Cali and I noticed that my fronts were cupping/dipping/scalloping on the outside edges also. I jacked up the pressure about three pounds for a couple of thousand miles and it did not help. I went down to my local alignment shop two weeks ago and the guy said the tow was out about two ticks on each wheel.

My advice to anyone buying a C-SRT8 is to have the dealership check the alignment before you leave with it.

Interesting this is coming up...I'm wondering if there is a service bulluton out on this because I took mine in to the dealer for an oil change and some work tire balance Etc...and they did a Front end alignment for free.

I never instructed them to even check it. I'm wondering if this is a common problem and DCX quietly changed the alignment specs and told dealer to check them during service.

The same thing happened to me and they discovered the alignment was messed up. My car didn’t pull either, but the tires were extremely messed up. I would have it checked out with a reputable company that has the latest equipment.

Well I would love it if there was because I would be able to re-coup some of the cost but it's probably too late for me. At just over 14,000 miles I had to do something or the outer edges were going to be shredded. I started noticing it at 12,000.

I didn't even want to go to the dealer because their answer would be, "How do we know you didn't do something to knock it out?" Of course I cannot contest that because there is no proof.

There are only two ways to tell if your car is slightly out of alignment. The first involves having someone check the alignment and the other is noticing unusual tire wear. By the time you notice the tire wear the dealer can claim it is the result of something that happened during driving conditions.

I going to have the dealer check both camber and tow tomorrow and I'm also pushing to have the dealer pay at least half the cost on my tire replacement if not all of it. I can guarantee you that the dealer is aware of this problem and keeping it hush hush to avoid having to replace these worn tires.
