Spare Tire for SRT 8 300 or Charger

I was surfing around ebay when I came across a listing for a spare tire for the SRT 8. I was just wondering if anyone here had given this a try.
eBay Motors: Spare Tire and jack kit for Charger SRT8, 300 SRT8 (item 230187298310 end time Nov-07-07 13:41:34 PST)
I'm thinkin' it's gotta be better than a can of fix a flat.

This is one of the best mods I have seen. I have always wanted a full size spare and now I know it can be done. I also think this should be brought up in the next SRT8 Engineer Q&A session. Something like this could be a BIG selling point in the future.

There's a lot of work into that solution.

As far as the first ebay link, what's going on there? The OEM spare for 5.7 cars will not clear the front Brembo caliper...is there a different spare out there now?

From what I can tell they developed or found a special 18" rim that would fit over the front brakes. I agree the full size spare is a great solution, but it does look like a lot of work. I know in the past SRT 8 owners were looking for a way to have a spare and when I saw this I figured someone finally figured it out. I do think that both solutions need to be brought to the attention of Chrysler and the SRT engineers, since we had always been told it couldn't be done and now it appears that there are two viable solutions.

Stay tuned. I'm working on something with a Dutch company who supplies SpaceSaver tires for various MB, Porsche and Audi models and intend to use an 18" Borbet TS wheel.

Too much going on right now with the calendar contest, but I think this may just work.

Sounds good Rambit! Until there is a solution I will stay with the security of this and yes it takes up some space but to be honest, it's just Mrs Bigsnake and me so there is plenty of room for the things we need plus a cooler and I get too impatient to wait on a service vehicle to come to change it! Some places you really don't want to wait! By the way since this pic. I turned the tire over and use it to hold tools and such!
I will be watching for your updates!!

I guess I don't get the fuss. I found a 5.7L spare and it fits right into the well in the trunk. I feel secure. What are the chances of a flat away from home to begin with? Now, what is the chance that that flat is on a front tire? For those low odds, I just don't see the big deal with the possibility of the inconvenience of having to move a rear tire to the front and put the mini spare on the rear. Besides, any minispare or mismatched tire/'rim even if it clears the brakes like the one that is on ebay for a mere $499, is very uncool on the front and you'd be wise to move a good rear tire to the front and mount the spare on the rear anyway if you have to drive some distance. Sheet metal work and cost to accomodate a full size spare approaches the absurd given the odds. JMHO.

You might want to ask haas what the chances are. He was probably the first to experience it first hand in 2005. Having to get flat bedded and having to have a tire flown in was not exactly what he had in mind for a holiday. Even now most dealers have to order these in.

Moving tires back to front is just not an option I'd care to go through either using an 18" 300C wheel.

When I went to California there were only two F1 tires in all of Ontario. The last thing I wanted was to be stuck in the middle of nowhere without a tire, so I bought a 245. The thing took up half my trunk, but at least I could store cleaning supplies in it. I figured I'd be able to get it mounted if necessary no matter where I was.
