I just scored a set of factory SRT 20" wheels to go on my 2WD 2006 300C.
I want to go as wide as possible on it without rubbing.
Can someone tell what I can go with?
Does the SRT size discussion above also apply to my 300C?
I like the Toyo Proxes 275/40/20 all the way around if it will fit and not mess up the steering dynamics.
after extensive research, I ended up buying the Nitto Invo tires last week.
I stayed 245/45/20 in the front, and went 275/40/20 in the back. I have not put them on given my wheels are still being built, but although the reviews of these tires have been excellent, it was a guy I met at my friends performance shop, that convinced me to go with these.
He had previously to his Invos' the Nitto NT 555 and BFG G Force tires, and said these were superior to them both. Anyway, just my two cents...

I've heard from numerous lx srt8 owner's that vredestein's are the best tire around. I have a set of 275/40's sitting in my garage waiting for my f1's wear out (hopefully soon!)
I know where to buy 2 and 3 but I will not buy 1 from ebay. I wish someone had them local to me.

No offense Will, but that is completely untrue. There are a plethora of FAR better tires for our cars than Vredesteins, ....Dunlop, Michelin, and Bridgestone, for example ALL make better tires for our cars, they're just a LOT more $$$ around $1,500-$1,600 per set (I of course think the Nitto Invo is a better tire than the Vreds, but hey, that's me)
Hey, you buy what you like, everyone has different opinions about these types of details, i'm sure those tires will be solid for you..

Don't kill the messenger! I didn't say they were the best but atleast 10 guys who have them on their srt8 said they were.

No harm intended I just find tire discussions to be both informative, and hype all rolled up in one perspective.
For example, lets take the overall grading of the tires themselves, in our case, US federal stadards, and add the company that makes a particular tire as part of the discussion.
Uniform tire quality grading, is a federal law that requires tire manufacturers to grade their tires for treader, traction, and temperature resistance. TIRE manufacturers, NOT the government, test tires and assign THEIR own grades. Unfortunately, the government has not prescribed a formula for converting the manufacturers test results into "actual 3rd party" grades & standards; therefore the numbers are not objective at all, and completely SUBjective. According to the Federal Trade Commission, treader grades are for comparison purposes only, and are not intended to be converted into anticipated, or promised, tire mileage and or performance.
If some are you are asking "what the fark does this have to do with anything" well, it has EVERYTHING to do with choosing tires, and the "tests" and "reviews" many of us use to do so. Tire companies are "in bed" with the auto business, and politics (like in so many other forms of life and business) is a HUGE aspect of the biz. Lot of $$$ passes under the table for favorable reviews of a particular tire on say a Porsche, or Ferrari, and that becomes a MAJOR selling point for that tire.
For the most part, tires, tire compounds, metals, ect, are fairly common amoust ALL tire manufacturers, it design and applications that differentiate many from each other.
Vredestein tires are a real solid tire for price point, and will most likely go higher in price as they gain popularity here in the States. However, they are a STRICK dry pavement tire that has tremendous compromises in its construction, and compounds. The Ultrac Sesanta is a 'sports car' designed tire for maximum dry condition traction, awesome, but ultimately not best applicable for the 300C SRT8 (my opinion)
I wanted a REAL GOOD balance in my next tire for under $900.00 per set, with dry performance, ride quality, and wet performance in the order of my importance. I don't think of this car as a 'sports car' its a sports sedan, and therefore, should have a more versatile tire than a simply dry pavement performance tire.
If one is simply going to the road race tracks, or Englishtown, then yes, I guess ultra sticky, dry pavement tires would be best, but in that case, why not buy ACTUAL slicks? or track specific tires (designed with different compounds for track pavement) ???? why buy a tire that is advertised as a "street performance tire" yet does not balance out as well? This was MY reasoning behind the INVO purchase, and I guess i've pontificated enough on this subject...
Anyway, i'll see you sometime this summer, we'll talk more about our tires then, and give forth reviews
