295/40/20

I was wondering if I could fit a slightly larger tire on my SRT factory rims. I am currently running toyo proxes 4 275/40/20 and having traction issues with a tire that has a 300 treadwear rating and AA traction. So maybe a 295/40/20 will give me a little more contact patch. Thanks Again

The 295/40/20 are too wide but it can be done..

I thought that a tire's traction and temperature ratings were in relation to it's wet traction and resistance to breaking down under a lot of heat. Anyone know for sure?

The size of the contact patch and lack of tread - meaning more rubber is on the road surface - will help with the traction you want here.

i'm running the 275/40 and agree the 295 would be too wide. have you tried playing with your tire pressure?

275 IMO is the limit, a 295 would be to much especially if you drive spiritedly......

Ok thanks a lot everybody. I will be sticking with the 275's I will start working with the tire pressure. and if not just buy the set of drag radials for 402 motoring.

Ditto above. I would not go that big. I am not a fan of upsizing tire width on a specific rim. You can get away with a little upsizing but if you go too much you are asking for a catastrophic issue. Be careful.

A 295/40/20 will actually be narrower on our rims than a 275. You can have the rim widened .75" and it will fit nicely. I've been talking to a shop called Cal Chrome in Valencia CA. The guy has a 300C SRT8 and is really knowledgeable on it. He quoted $250 a wheel to widen, PLUS you need to provide 2 additional donor rims.
