Silly brake rotor cleaning question

I plan on swapping my OEM pads out after Santa (hopefully) brings me some new Posi-Quiets from Dr. Z!

My intent is to pull the wheels and really clean the hell out of them while they are off, but does anyone have any tips for cleaning the calipers and discs?

I have read that Brakekleen (sp) is a big no-no as it is can damage the paint on the calipers. Also, some tips for dissolving the really bad dust on the backs of the wheels would be helpful too!

one of the best cleaners is water. As the brakes are fully exposed to the elements a hot water wash with some regular laundry detergent will cut the crap with a nice brush.

I do not recommend pressure washing the rotor/caliper on the car due to possibly getting water past the seals. Take the wheels off and get to work!

I never really had a problem getting the dust off, but then again I was washing the damn stuff off nearly every day. The worst part was getting your hands to fit through the spokes without cutting yourself.

I wouldn't worry about the rotors a whole lot either. Seeing as you're going to be pulling the wheels off to swap the pads I don't think you'll have too much trouble cleaning the calipers off with plain old soap and water. That's the longest part of the Posi Quiet brake pad swap is cleaning the wheels.

I've used a pressure washer many times BTW with no problem at all and that's even directing the spray right on the calipers.

I found that Meguiars "All Wheel Cleaner" when used with a long handle soft bristle brush really does a good job on all parts of the wheel with very little work!

Every few months I take the wheels off and clean the inside of the wheel real good and clean up the calipers. I have also swapped out the brake pads on my SRT's for the posi-quiets and done this install for several other SRT owners. Each time I have only used soap (car wash soap) and water and a small rag. Very easy to clean up the calipers using this method.
