Tire Help (beating a dead horse I know)

I have read reviews on here and everywhere else until I was blue in the face and apparently learned zero.

So I went down to the local DT today and bought a set of Nitto Invos. I went with 255/45 front and 275/40 rear. I have played w/ the tire pressures from 30-42psi and I am very disappointed. These tires are way loose and the sidewalls feel like a noodle. I like a stiff tire that you can push into a corner and get good quick feedback. My RSAs were better tires and they were crap at best. I drive this car daily and run 15-25K miles per year (depending on how much I fly for work). I drive very aggressively and will do a couple weekends at the local road track for fun.

My question is w/out spending over $225/tire what tire and size would you guys run? I would also like a tire w/ decent tread wear if possible. Would 255/35/20 look too short in the fender well?

Thanks in advance
Ryan

I am thinking about the Falken FK-452 in 275/30/20 rear and 255/35/20 front.

Any thoughts?

I am not sure if it is the sidewall flex of the tires mentioned above or what but, the Invos are going back as soon as DT opens tomorrow.

Consider the height of the tire and the space that you will have between the tire and the fenderwells. A 30 series tire is going to have a very thin sidewall thus leaving you with a nice sized gap between th tire and fenderwell and may not look so hot. 275/40/20 is almost numerically identical in height to a 255/45/20 with a wider stance and that is what many guys, including myself, have gone to on the stock SRT8 rim. (9" wide)

On paper you are correct. This is the exact reason I went w/ the Invos in the 255/45 and 275/40 after viewing the Goodyear size chart and the Nitto Invo chart. The Invos on the car inflated to 32psi measure 1" taller in the front and 1.25" taller in the rear. Stock tires were 245/45 RSAs.

I am mainly concerned with the feel of these tires and the fact that the taller sidewall feels like it is a truck tire when you go into a corner and I can not get it to take a decent set in a hard corner and this is compared to the stock RSAs that everybody says are crap (and I generally agree with)

I have had many performance cars but I am new to the heavy performance sedan world and could use a little help.

i, as many other SRT owners, like the Toyo Proxes 4. i'm running 245/45 in the front and 275/40 in the rear on the stock SRT wheels.

I too am running the proxes 4 275/40/20 in the rear. They are identicle in height to the RSAs. My friend went with the Michillen 275/40/20s and they look taller than mine. A guy at a tire store even told me every brand measures different. I had them mount one of the Toyos and compared it side by side with the stock RSA. Here are some pics.

What about the Pirelli Pzero Rosso's?? can you run a 255-40 /front and 275-40/ rear set-up??

I have had toyos before on a couple of my cars and I hated them with a passion, so I dont think I'll ever go back.

More details:

Measurements from the rim protector to the tread surface measured vertically (+/- 1/16):
Goodyear RSA 245/45/20 w/ 8/32nd tread left - 2.5"
Nitto Invo 255/45/20 new - 3.25"
Nitto Invo 275/40/20 new - 3.25"

The Invos look huge because they are 1.5" taller. This should account for the tires feeling super soft and un-responsive in hard corners.

Fender well gap from tread surface to fender
NI 255/45/20 - 1.25"
NI 275/40/20 - 2"

I spent some more time on the tires today and the grip is good it is just the "squishy" feeling I can not get over. This tire combo feels like it will roll off the rim even though it sticks well.

If anyone happens to have the measurements for the Falken FK-452 or Toyo Proxes from the rim protector to the tread surface measured vertically, that would be awesome.

If anybody has access to sidewall measurements for any of the 255/35/20 or 275/35/20 or 275/30/20 that are available that would be great.

I heard that the Invos feel "squishy" in transition moves before. Does the Invo have a sift sidewall or something?

The Toyos that you didn't like, Were they toyo proxes 4, and if so what didn't you like about them. I'm interested in these tires and your the only one that i've come across that doesn't like them, And i gotta know why.
